When you reassemble go with ss studs & brass nuts.

I can not recommend Walck's wiring harness' highly enough. Your wiring is shot, you'll be having issues (& possibly fires) until it's replaced.if you don't replace it..

Your litter mate Tonks says "Do It".

@Howard Eisenhauer, agreed about the Walacks harness I was looking at that one for sure. I'll have to budget for that. Thanks for he advice on the manifold too. I wonder if Tonk and 311 were built in he same week. I am betting these are both first week of production jeeps for 1955

Well it’s been a while for this thread but the Jeeps just running and I haven’t frankly done anything to it. I decided not to mess with the manifold for now it works and doesn’t appear to leak.

I did however notice the fuel pump was weeping gas, obviously not a good thing so I’m in the process of installing a NOS ac delco pump I got from Daryl.

Here you can see the weep

The PO has a solex carb installed and this purolater fuel pressure regulator, none of which I’ve had to touch so I’ll probably leave it for now.

You gotta love these filters with the see through glass and replaceable screen

Pump out and compared to the replacement. This gets me thinking is this the original fuel pump? Did 55’s come with glass bowl? My FSM shows a glass bowl
    [IMG]

Here’s the markings on bottom of pump, interesting it says wiper with an arrow. If it is original I’d consider rebuilding it. For now I’m going to install the glass bowl unit once I get some fittings to adapt vacuum lines as the new units threaded vs old slip on hose barb.

Saw some rinke dink stuff while I was under the hood. Looks like the P.O. when installing the flat tow wiring just punched the grill instead of drilling holes he did that too on the dash with an on off switch. Not a huge deal but not hard to drill with the right tool.

On the plus side looks like I had ok compression at some point along the way because the numbers are engraved on the fender

    32603 miles

Edit I compared that to my original photo when I first got the jeep and it looks like I’ve put just over 200 miles on the jeep.

Just noticed the frame boxing, didn’t realize they were doing this in the early ones, this doesn’t look owner installed, that’s the left engine mount at top, in fact this looks a lot like the renegade in terms of boxing of the frame near front cross member.

Like I said this little guy runs fine so I am not all over looking under it. Just oil and grease till now. I do know I need to adjust the clutch free play which may end up being a rabbit hole.

That is a perfect version of a jeep that has not been bubbaed. You got a trophy.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I feel more like a custodian of the thing sometimes because it’s a time capsule of sorts. But in the end it’s just another jeep, so I drive it. But it definetly hasn’t been at the hands of bubba

    Rare taillights.

If that is 'original' paint color it certainly seems to have been re-done at some time, judging by the overspray on welting and wiring, bolt heads, horn bracket etc etc.

Nice Jeep and nice to see another 55. My '55 came with the dual action fuel pump with glass bowl. Is there a spacer between your fuel pump and the engine block?

Just looked back through the pictures. It is amazing how preserved this jeep is! Nice survivor just like my '56. (y)

So when did jeep stop using ALA taillights? I see this one has two on it. Mine has the remains of one.

There was no spacer, how thick should the spacer be?
    Thanks
