Uhh, I like it, but my only quibble is "Full size Ford Bronco frame (same frame as an F350)" Uh, on what planet? That's just a bald-faced lie.

I'm not sure any of that drivetrain/chassis/suspension swap is better than the Toyota stuff it replaced.

No way that's an f350 frame based on the rails and it looks like it could be a 4bt. I wouldn't be surprised if the ad is misleading on a few things.

I don't see how it could fit. I agree 4BT sounds more logical.

Nope, it’s the 5.9. I did some google-fu and found that it sold on BAT for $10k just a month ago.

No Reserve: Modified 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80

Edit: Or maybe it didn’t sell (maybe a friend “bought” it). Odd that it’s still in Columbia Falls. The current price is probably what he was hoping to get for it.

now wasn't that the V8 powered model land cruiser to start
now that you pointed it out , 10K is more reasonable

I'll bet whoever did all of that work realized what he ended up with as wasn't practical as anticipated. Seems like a lot of unfinished work too.

You read my mind..... So you stuffed a heavy a**, loud, diesel engine into a platform that was fairly well designed from factory.... Here's you sign.....:contract:

    You guys are funny.

All I hear on here is how every new model should be offered with a diesel. But all new diesels have too much emissions garbage.

This is a pre-emissions 12-valve diesel in a 1-ton platform with a luxury-vehicle cab. It would take $20k+ just in parts to build, then countless hours to assemble. Sure it needs some refinement, but I’d drop $16k on this long before I’d throw $40k in a POS JK that would still need $10k in mods to do the same thing this one is ready for, and I don’t even like diesels! :coffee:

I wouldn't have thought an '89 Bronco frame would be the same strengthwise as an F350 frame.

Every model should be available in a diesel..... Modern diesels do have allot of emissions crap on them.... but they run better, start easier, make way more power and get significantly better mileage. BTW the baby duramax stock produces more HP than that old 6BT.
I'm not saying that the 5.9 cummins engines are bad, they were a great workhorse engine in their day...... Kinda like that detroit 2 stroke diesel.

It reads like it is a very reliable drivetrain. I am just very skeptical about the truth with the engine and frame with one picture that doesn't show much / isn't a good angle.
That's still a very heavy engine which would be hard on everything.

I am drooling over the diesel Expeditions for road trips. I simply can't touch the new price to order one as they won't be in the rental fleets. I'm sure there will soon be an aftermarket for the Ford 3l diesel. That would be an opportunity for something like this... or maybe just buy a Toyota diesel from Australia and put that in.

if you can find one from just before the emissions standards, or take out the DEF system, it would be new enough to run better, start better, and get better mileage.
i know a guy that lost the DEF system in his truck in a freak accident that damaged nothing else (completely coincidental that he's a diesel mechanic)

Don't worry..... The California emissions standards will eventually be applied to all 50 states along with smog/emissions component checks. He will eventually have to find that factory emissions equipment and reinstall it in order to license his vehicle.
It might take the feds a little bit, but it is coming whether you like it or not. And yes it does suck.
