Fan clutch came in, no bushing. I'll have to make something up. As soon as the fan gets here I'll post an update.

The picture on Rock Auto's listing even showed the bushing. I'm fixin' to head to the hardware store and see what I can find....

I found a bushing, so I'm good to go. Just waiting on the fan.

What's the diameter of the fan?

The one I pulled off of the 740 in the boneyard is roughly 15", which is actually right about the same as the steel fan I took of the Dauntless.

I'm still waiting on my fan. The seller shipped it via Fedex "Smartpost", so it's taking forever.

Got the fan, and it won't work for me. It hits the bottom tank/ seam on the radiator. I'd need at the very least another inch to make it work. Oh well, I've made costlier gambles..:)
I do have studs now instead of bolts to hold the fan on....

Huh, that really strikes me as odd-ish. You've got the earlier radiator, right? Which I *think* has a skinnier profile than the one in my '70?

Yep. But the grill/ shroud/ radiator flange is different, and I don't know if one is deeper than the other.

Ahhh. I wonder if The fan blade you got is deeper than the one I've got. Most of the looking I did led me to believe that the Volvo part number for that fan was pretty much the same across the line, but I could take a depth measurement, just for curiosities sake...

Well that's a bugger, sorry it didn't work for you.

So I guess for those of you interested in doing this, at least based on mine, it fits fine with the later radiator (My CJ is a 1970 with a factory Dauntless), assuming they managed to plant the engine and radiator in the same place on all of them.....

Yeah, I was kind of excited to try this. Not a big deal. Maybe I'll list this in the classifieds

Here's the new fan and clutch (purchased from Patrick) on my '70.
Fits perfectly, and man does it move some air!

At idle it draws enough air to hold that little paper bag against the grille.... 20160403_162014.jpg
