From the pics, the grill looks like a standard CJ grill. I would guess that the radiator was shared with the standard F134. Just based on what I can see in the pictures.

    Cool, Cool, Cool.

Should be easy enough to source parts for the Perkins, but maybe not from conventional jeep sources. Perkins built engines for everything, maybe that little Perk also came in welding machines, air compressors, fork trucks, etc. GREAT engine. Congratulations and your persistence paid off. Body damage is no big deal.

Is there a company that makes reproduction seat covers for early CJ's? This one has the 1/3- 2/3 front and a back seat that all need covers.

I don't think so, unless you want military green canvas.

Maybe you can take the seats to a local upholster and have them match the pattern.

If your heart is set on exact replacements you can try either New Life Canvas or SMS Auto Fabrics. I don't believe either offers a cover set but for the right amount of $$$ they can match the original material & perhaps, if you send them the old covers, whip up a set for you.

Check the condition of the padding before you order- odds are it will need replacing too.

I'm in touch with Mike at Kaiser Willys and will be sending pics of the seats to him to see if his guy can do it. They don't have to be a perfect match, I'm not restoring at this point. I just want something decent to sit on to drive it. The current covers are baked from being in the sun so long and pretty much just crack if you touch them.

I did get the door windows back in their tracks and rolled up last night. Hoping to make some good progress on prepping it for starting this weekend.

My cousin and I got it fired up and running this weekend after completely blowing out the fuel system and pulling and cleaning injectors. Wow was it carboned up! Runs pretty good though. After pulling the front sheetmetal and pressure washing everything it appears the block was windowed at some point around #3 and patched with a steel patch and the oil pan welded back up. Seems to run fine though and has 55 psi oil pressure at idle. Now i have to go through the brakes and bearing and change all other fluids and I should be able to drive it! Oh...and the pesky radiator problem plus putting sheetmetal back on and some interior work and.................

It would appear my block was a victim of the same number 3 failure as compostwerks' Perkins CJ-6 at some point and farm fixed. But it runs and I'm not going to worry about it until it doesn't.

I got the front brakes apart and was unable to find parts for them easily and the design isn't very good.....So I swapped from the below 9" backing plates to some 11" bendix brakes on the front and will be doing the rear this weekend. I discovered the previous owner swapped in some 3.73 gears at some point and that both ends are open diff while changing the fluids in everything over the weekend as well. New master cylinder is in, new front brakes and new front shocks are on, fluids are all changed. I need to change the rear brakes out to 11" also and swap on the new rear shocks and , install the new radiator and electric fan once it comes and then put the front sheet metal back on. Then it can go to get the frame fixed and the seats can go for upholstery once I find a decent shop around here to do it. After that....Drive it!

Any salvageable parts from the 9 inch brakes? I seem to recall that stock 2a guys liked those later 9inch drums, might be wrong there.

Good call on the 11inch swap, you'll actually be able to stop from 40 mph and faster now . As much as I like as few modifications as possible, the 11inch drums are the best modification to an Early CJ. The only thing that comes in second place is a PTO or OD IMO.

This one had 3.73 gears swapped in at some point so no OD needed otherwise it would be getting one. I've got all the 9" parts still, but I don't think they are bendix. Had a difficult time finding parts and they are kind of a weird set up. The rear is getting changed to 11" also. I am trying to stay with as few mods as possible but also trying to keep $$ within reason. My replacement radiator showed up today. Seems to be a decent piece for the price. It came with an electric fan too. This is one of those where I chose to go "non factory" for $$ reasons, but there's no reason the next owner can't swap the correct radiator in. I'm not going to mod the grill to fit it.

Sounds like you have/had the Lockheed cam adjuster style brakes. 11" or disc is definitely a huge improvement.

The bit about the O/D was a generalization.

I wouldn't sweat about the radiator, I wanted to keep the original, but mine was pretty beat. So I went with a junkyard replacement.

With an electric fan and brand new aluminum radiator, and you'll never have cooling issues.

Sounds reasonable. The cam adjuster I'm not fond of.

Put the new radiator in last night. Ended up having to drill two holes in the grill to mount it. Nice fit but a bit thick on this application. Hoses are going to be a pain, and there is about an inch of clearance between the water pump and radiator.

Had to install the fenders to get the grill position close. These are postal fenders and likely temporary. They have a bit of rust in them but are far straighter than the ones that came off.

And finally.... The IPF H4 headlight upgrade I did last week. Maybe the cart before the horse, but I had them and was out of brake parts to swap at that point. =)

Major frame fix this weekend. Big thanks to my cousin for spending the weekend working on my jeep instead of making progress on his own Renegade I restoration project.

Alright. Seats got dropped off thursday with the upholstery guy. Should heave them wednesday of this week. New foam rubber on the bottoms of the front seats and left the springs in everything else. Recovering all 3 seats in black heavy duty vinyl.

Problem tho. This little reservoir leaks like a sieve. The gasket was there but is now toast. Will locate an o-ring hopefully tomorrow to seal the cap but I *think* it's overflowing out the top of the cap (cap not pictured). It's vented. This is part of the return system but also part of the starting system I think. Any ideas? Is the level too high? Return line not flowing as well as it should?
