As Daryl mentioned it should have a flanged axle. The rear center hub cap covers what makes for a quick id. of the axle. For a flanged axle the end of the axle shaft is flat, and if it's tapered it will have a castle nut on the end of the shaft.

This picture easily shows the flanged axle in blue.

Sorry guys I got sick, haven’t been out of bed today but once. As soon as I’m feeling up to it and it’s not 2 degrees I’ll take some more pics! I’m excited to shake it down and see what’s what about it.

Thanks Thean I am better. So I looked at all the info everyone gave me and yes I do believe it is a 71. Last weekend I took the hardtop off and removed the roll bar to clean it up and paint it. Me and the wife drove it around through the woods and I have to say I think I like it better without the hardtop. The top may come up for sale shortly. I did a little more thorough going over on it and found an electric fuel pump. I think ill get a mechanical pump and take the electric one out. Speaking of electrical stuff, the wiring on this jeep is the worst iv'e ever seen and still be running!! When I hit the brakes a small green light on the dash lights up as well as the front running lights.... I see a wiring harness in my near future. So i do have some questions about these Buick engines. I really don't know much at all about them besides what iv'e read on Novak. Does anyone know exactly what parts will interchange from the 80's 3.8 to the dauntless? I bought an Edelbrock intake this weekend for $75 and after googling the part number it says its for a 3.8. I'm not too upset considering it was $75. Also one of the mechanics where I work has a 3.8 he said was rebuilt and he offered it to me for $200. I should probably stop buying stuff until y'all educate me more on early CJ stuff :D

I will jeepstar! I think I just want a good trail jeep out of this one. After I got the half cab redone on my 74 I was too afraid to get it scratched so I don't want to get this one too "pretty". I've been looking at maybe doing a family style roll cage and skinning the top of it in aluminum.

From my limited knowledge and research lately, 198 odd fire 62/63 only has certain parts that interchange with the 225 odd fire 64 to 75(?) Then jumps to a 231 odd fire for 76/77 (parts interchange with earlier 225), then 77+ goes 231 even fire. Even fire and odd fire are different. I don't know about the intake manifold crossover. The top end oiling is different, crank is different, etc. However 77 to 1988(?) 3.8/231 bolt right in. Some say you will have an issue if you try to keep the heavy Jeep odd fire flywheel and bolt it on an even fire, others say you wont.
This is all regurgitated Internet info, so don't shoot the messenger. Hopefully I got it right. :D
    Post pics of the harness.

I think you got took. So, since I'm a hell of a guy, I will take it off your hands and will keep it hush, hush so you will not have to carry that stigma around!

Great find! I'm still looking for a decent 6.

Had a friend pick the half cab up for me in TN. Test fit it Saturday to make sure it was the right year range. Its a little rough but nothing a good body man cant repair. I like it a whole lot better than the full top.

Nice find on the half-top! It looks good on a CJ6.

So i'm going to start on the suspension pretty soon. I ordered some YJ 4" lift springs and i'm probably going to use RRO's SUA kit. I would like to end up with enough room to run 34's. I've also been looking for a 1" body lift. Does any manufactures make one for early cj6's?

Suspension wise the CJ5's and 6's are the same. To add to the early/intermediate differences, the '72 and later had suspended pedals for the clutch and brakes, (more convenient to service), infinitely better steering (Saginaw), brakes, and Dana 30 front axle. I've owned two CJ6's, both 1966's with V6' s. Odd fire V6's are unique, with their own set of personality traits, yours already has an HEI distributor, one of the best additions to be made to a V6. Good luck!
