I am having a hard time sourcing a replacement power steering hose for my jeep. It’s a 74 CJ5, with a 304 and stock PS pump/brackets. When I purchased the PS pump used, it came with the high pressure hose which fit my application perfectly. Well the old hose finally sprung a leak, and I haven’t been able to find any hoses that look like it.

My steering box sits pretty close to the radiator, and the other hoses I’ve gotten from the auto store won’t clear and hit the bottom of the radiator.

My pump and steering gear both use the flared ends without o-rings, which I believe was a 74 and older feature? The steering box is a redhead gear big bore J20 box, but fits in the same mount and uses the same hose connections as the original CJ5 steering box.

Supposedly this PS hose came off a CJ5 but I have no further info. Does anyone recognize this one?

That may have started out as a stock pressure hose but somebody has monkeyed with the box end. Mine has a 90 right above the box fitting to allow it to fit under the grill.

It has been a while but I am thinking I got a factory hose for my 74 from the local NAPA store. Look at their hose photo on line to see if it will work. here is the part #
Power Steering Pressure Hose - OEM
    Part # :
NPS 72304 I remember I had to bend the line just a little to clear the radiator.

I had same problem with clearing the radiator. Mine is factory pump, 304, and '74. But CJ box, with the flare ends. The new hose crimp on the non-pressure side if I recall hits the lower part of radiator. When I installed, only the front grill/Radiator was in place. So I just pushed a bit on the grill which slightly bent down the crimp area of the hose. Barely put any pressure it was so close to fitting. But put just enough to clear the radiator. Since your fenders are probably on then I'd maybe unbolt the center grill support just to lift it up a bit, put hose on, drop grill back down and slightly push it all down a bit, then re-bolt. Or with hose out just slightly adjust the 90* bend. You don't need much, or at least I didn't so be slow and careful bending it. I think my hoses were Omix/Rugged Ridge from Summit for '74. Not the best pic. But you can see the Hi-pressure line drops down. Under the wince cables (blue lines) is the low pressure and that is the corner that hit the radiator. But all now fits like a glove. Probably some better pics during my project on my build page. link in sig.

That NAPA hose looks close to the 1975 hose.
I think the 1974 part number 5351955 changed into the 1975 part number 5354381.
You can try to cross these AMC Jeep numbers.
Worst case is to take the complete hose to a hydraulic hose shop, make the new rubber portion with crimps, and just re-use your ends.
Tractor shops and some parts stores can do this.

So I am retired and now just small time farmer I have 3 tractors and a skid steer I have had hydraulic problems on all. all i do is take the hose to a dealer and they make one I have often thought when I do my Saginaw conversion why not just take fittings that fit and length and have them make one.

Check with a local NAPA store many can fabricate the high pressure lines. The store I worked made those hoses all the time for the guys here for their snow plows. We had alot of different ends and there is a catalog with alot more than we stocked so might have to wait a day or two to get them.

I ran into the same issues when I went to PS on mine and this is what a came up with. Went to 3 different hose specialists and they had zero interest in making anything.

I can't see them. You might need to set the permissions to public or something like that.

I had a similar problem. Ended up scrolling through images of hoses on rock auto until I found one that had a decent looking bend on the pump side and a long metal hose on the box side. I knew it wouldn’t be exact, but it was close enough that I was able to gently bend the metal hoses to make it fit. Gates 364160 is the part number I used, which has flares on both ends. Here’s a link to the thread I started when I had this issue:

If you have a tractor repair place near by take it to them and let them split the clamps a put a new hose on your ends and reclamp them

Any good hose shop can make that easily, I had one made for my 71. I simply took a junk hose end bent it the way I wanted taped a piece of hose to it and shaped it with tape the way I thought it should be. Took it to a hose shop and they made one exactly like i wanted it.

I took the 75 into my local hose shop years ago and they built and installed it to ensure perfect fit. The other option though Is take your old one in and have them copy it like previously mentioned. I’ve had zero luck with other parts store hoses

Here are a couple pics of my 75. I made the low pressure side myself and massaged a factory one from Napa for the other one. Hopefully you can see the pictures

I think I used Napa part # 7-6195 if that helps. Sorry if the pictures aren’t working, they have in the past so I’m not sure what to do.

I ended up using the stock 1975 pressure hose from Oreilly’s with the large “L” bend in it and it works fine. I’m really not sure what my original hose came off of but they look completely different. Since it works though I’m happy with the result. Thanks for the help everyone
