So in my search for rear window struts for my Myers cab, a link was provided for me on my for sale thread for Al Hanson. They don’t carry the strut and they forwarded me to Moore industries
10 3/4 Inch 19 1/4 Inch Standard Zinc Telescopic Prop - Moore Industrial Hardware

    Part # 105712-p

This item is slightly larger/longer than the factory item but at $12 apiece it was worth the risk.

One of the bracket Bends required a 90° correction but otherwise work great. Frankly a bit stiffer than the fact or one but maybe that is some wear.
Factory versus replacement, take note of the right side of the picture

Do they rattle less than the originals? Mine are terrible. I jam cardboard into them to shut them up.

    No rattle
    They are made in USA

they use to get from China but now make in house

Same bolt pattern was used which made it easy. Lifts the window a bit higher due to the extra inch or so of length but that was actually handy so now I don’t walk into the edge of the window when I have it open

Thanks for posting this info, for people not caring about originality, has anyone tried using gas struts as used in late model cars, might be a way to get away from rattling.

I considered it but the way this locks up so solid and required minimal work, I chose this direction but I would be interested to hear

Considering the fact that gas struts fail over time and those never will I'll never use them on mine.

These work fine until you lift the corner of the hatch and one side unlocks and the other doesn't. You lift again and now the opposite side is loose and the loose side is locked. On the originals there is a little tab that you can use to lock or unlock one side and put them back in synch.

Does anyone have a suggestion for lubricant of these struts? Mine work fine but sound dry. I don't want to goop it up and hope someone has a good suggestion.
    Thanks for the post Plastikosmd.
They also get all jik jack once in awhile like Tim mentioned in #10.

Spray-on white lithium grease is all I've used. Maybe there's something better?

Might be something better but the spray on lithium is good enough in my book.

As far as the partial lock up, for me the key was to balance them and set them correctly and then fully pull up the window/hatch and then I have no issue

If you just “almost” pull it up, you run into trouble

I have gas struts on my kelly. The throw was kinda short so i had to make brackets to adapt them in such a way that i could get maximum throw. So I have to duck to get in I wish it opened a touch more but otherwise it works good. Ill try to remember to get some pics. Iv been waiting to find a pair of mechanical ones but maybe not now I hate rattles.

I had to make brackets to adapt the door props I got years ago.....same idea, couldn't find the right length needed.

Gas struts come in varying lengths, a little research will provide the length you prefer, alternative positioning will provide desired lift range. Yes, gas struts wear out, but no more than most of us use the hatches in reality, would this be a real issue? The manual struts wear out also, and some are prone to sticking on one side or the other, although good maintenance usually prevents this. I guess like many things it is a matter of personal choice. Good luck!
