The trails are located in West Branch Mi. About 2-3 hours north of you. I am a member of Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association and I learn about the rides through them. This last winter ride was arranged and put on by Soldiers of Fortune Offroad, they are located on the SE side of the state. They also arranged the trail maintenance I was on.

Great bunch of guys, and GLFWDA works hard to keep the trails open for us in this state.

Thanks for the info. I'll join that group. My family has a cottage not to far from there, and I think we've riddent the dirt bikes in and around St. Helen. Thanks again for the thread, pictures and tips. I'll give it a go!

Just got back from another trail cleanup. There is WAY too much dumping that happens, our area (1 out of 10) filled 3 - 30 yd dumpsters and it didn't look like we dented the problem. Spent Friday night at Adams (till 12:30) finalizing stuff for the cleanup, and then he couldn't go We got a lot done though :(

    mounted and wired winch
    mounted and wired CB
    Mounted Ultimate Air tank
    re-indexed pitman arm
    modified bumper and mounted fairlead

I was able to make it up though and found out the XRC8 will pick up the front of my jeep :teehee:

I can get some pics of the brackets, the box is very easy to take off.

Right now I think I am going to keep the wheels. I like the looks of the patina. When the jeep gets real paint I probably will paint them.

This is a great looking jeep. A little dissapointed in the winch and cb though. THey kinda spoil the look you had going. One of the older syle "classic" cobras and either a rough 8274 or for budget sake an old mx6085 like I'm rebuilding would be sweet. Nice job on the install anyway.

Love the patina, skinny's, headers and all. At first I was a little turned off by the blue cj5 bar but now that may be one of its best points.

I started to go through this thread and I thought I had never seen it. Then I saw my own comment back in 07. Again awesome Jeep. I'm on page three and will come back later to finish going through it.

I like the looks of the XRC8 winch on there. We've bought 2 of them this year and have been pleased with them on our Jeeps.

These pics are cool. It doesn't look real. It almost looks like model in a diorama.

Okay I've been all the way through it now .

What did you do to keep your steering shaft from flopping around inside the column tube and does it still have the spring in the top?

    Great thread!

Any idea what size lift springs you have on your flatty. I'm looking to run some 34" LTBs on my flatty.....not that many choices for springs.

Nothing, the bushings were still in place on the inside. I just cut the end off and welded a spline on. I have never trusted it, and am in the process of swapping in a tube style hot rod column that looks exactly the same, but will accept a modern steering wheel and steering shaft for safety.

They are 2". The one replacement spring was from www.jeeperzcreeperz.com. I plan to buy the full set since mine are all bent now.

Currently working on a T98/D18/Warn OD swap... with the stuff below

I also winter wheeled it some more...

and crunched my original USMC issue can..

    Wheeled

and tommy boy'ed the door when I caught the hard top on a tree nearly ripping it off and the door popped open...

Then I broke out the cordless sawz-all... only to hear someone say "Who carries a sawz-all??!"

    Fixed.

    Wheeled some more....

Then that f'in electric fan failed.

    Redneck cooling fix...

Smashed the fender and bent the tub when I Got the door, and noticed it later...

That run won me the So-broke award, partly because of the rarity of the top I smashed to hell.

    Tear down again...

    T98 prepping to go in...

    comparison to T86
    [IMG]

Lets fix that cooling system, out with the 60+ year old radiator

    More parts show up

    Found another top...

Then something unexpected shows up as a dirt cheap Craigslist find, now with more rear winch.

Stay tuned, as that is where I am stalled while waiting for a custom clutch to be made :fireblob:
