I haven't taken many photos of my build so far, but I plan to add to this thread as I keep working on it. Here is my story. A coworker told me about a cj5 that he wanted to sell, and he asked if I would come check it out. I instantly fell in love and brought it home. I picked up the CJ in mid September and have been working hard on it ever since. Here is a run down of where I'm at with it so far:

Came with a Dauntless V6, changed to Offenhauser intake with Holley 8007 carb, Pertronix ignition,
Painless wiring kit with dual batteries
Hanging pedals and power brake booster
Stock 3spd drive-train and axles. New brakes, clutch, ect.
    new 2.5" lift
All lights are now LED with added headlight relays
    100 amp 1 wire alternator
    Added power steering
Lots of body work, patch panels, and a fresh coat of blue paint. Probably change it to green this summer.
moved the driver seat an inch down and 3 back.
    U101 15x8 wheels with 33x9.5 tires

My son and I got the front bumper mounted and top on. We were pretty excited to see what it was going to eventually look like.

Starting the tear down for paint process.

Welding patch panels and filling in extra holes. People love to take drills to these things!

My son stripping parts for me.

    More forced labor.

    Fixing up the roll bar

The inside of the tub Raptor lined.

Getting ready to primer and paint.

    Finished painting.

    Putting things back together

First time out of the shop!

    New 2" lift installed

Painted the stencils on the tailgate.

Those are all of the photos I have. Now that I have this thread, I'll be more detailed on my progress and take more photos, and better quality. Thanks for looking.

Thanks guys. I was hoping to take more pics this weekend, but the rain was relentless.

My dad and I used to do stuff like this together when I was his age. I don't know half as much as my dad did, but I hope to pass on as much of what I learned as I can.

Awesome project! Looks great!. One thing I did notice, and maybe it's just the photo angle, but it looks like the rear axle moved way forward with the new lift?

My Jeep was showing some symptoms of a worn timing chain, so I decided to tear into it and investigate. I didn't expect to find anything but a stretched chain since the engine has less than 35,000 miles on it. As you can see from the photos, the Phenolic gear was shredded. The scary part is just how well the engine ran in spite of this damage. Fortunately I caught it before it let go. I just have no idea how it didn't. It's now sporting a Cloye's double roller and running great. If I ever buy another engine with a Phenolic timing gear, the first thing I'm going to do is replace it.

Replaced the one on my '71.Those are o.e.m. part.Been on there since it was new.I have seen a lot of those stripped out clear back in the 1970's. I looked down the distributor hole and could see the nylon gear was still on it.Ditto on the Cloyes chain and gears and tensioners from Amazon. mike
