My 67 CJ5 build

    I took my rusty PTO shaft and put it into a pc of pvc pipe with one end capped off and filled with 1/2 "the works" toilet bowl cleaner and 1/2 water and let it sit overnight

    I finally got the bell housing cleaned up today. I soaked it in a rubbermade filled with Tide to loosen the grease up, then sprayed mag wheel cleaner on it and used a parts cleaner brush to get the grime off. Then I used a wire wheel in a drill to give it a "patina" :)

    OK my fellow V6er's Why does it look like there is no way my engine is clearing the steering gear and pitman arm ??

    I was hoping to use my original clutch fork but I noticed the clip that holds it on is broke :( Now I need one of these!

    Got busy at work so the project was on hold, but after the holidays the engine is heading to the machine shop to get the machining done to get ready for my first engine rebuild. ..yikes. (I stripped the motor already, pic is before)

    Great build. I have my 67 in the driveway now and it just....sits but I think about working on it! Love your attn to detail and the great picture documentation!

    Has anyone answered you as to why your tranny and tc are setting off to the side? I removed my Dauntless, trans and tcase from a donor 65 frame, installed trans and tcase in my 56 frame, it had a v-6 before, and mine sets worse then yours, I checked cross members and they are both the same, only thing I changed was tcase rubber mount, I don't know whats wrong. This week I'm hoping to install motor, so I'm thinking about removing trans, installing motor then attach tranny and tcase and see where things line up then. I have t14a trans and d18 tcase, my bellhousing bolts to tran with no adapt, I see your tcase mount looks different, could you take a closer pic for me, I think this is where my problem is stemming from.     I can take photos for you after the weekend. My tranny is the t86. It appears to be centered. If i were you i would take the transmission out and mount it to the engine (without tc) then install engine and trans as one

    Well today I got everything in and hooked up. Sure is a tight fit, but everything lined up. here is a pic of the bracket I made for transfer case mount. I think it will work ok. Bruce [​IMG][/URL][/IMG] [​IMG][/URL][/IMG]

    If that is the final resting place for the Tranny and Transfers case , I would suggest that you now move the rubber mount over to the correct centered location...........or is the cross member in the wrong location?
    That rubber mount is designed to work under compression and having it offset with what looks like piece of maybe 1/8" steel FB will not offer any of those needs to support it properly.

    Well tarry99, the cross member is in the same location as it was in the donor frame, which was a 65 with factory v-6, the piece of steel that was in it had rusted away. I have searched the forums here, and there are a lot of different ways to hook these up,as I'm reading in many posts they are for torque, not for support. From what I have seen on here, later years jeep installed a F-head motor mount to the side frame. I may move the cross member, but then the transmission would have a plate that would be hanging over the front of the mount about 1 1/2 to 2 inches, my thoughts were it seems to make more sence to support the trans, which carrys all the motor weight, solid right under the mount. If you look close at the pics in this thread, johns, has a mount like this too, that's why I ask him to take pics. Lets see what others have to say. Thanks, Bruce

    Bruce , I guess anything is possible on a Jeep...........all the ones I have seen line up with the cross member and most have a cup in the cross member that the bushing fits into........I have never seen the piece of flat bar used as you did but again anything is possible............as far as the rear Tranny mount I have seen them offset and hang out a little.

    I'm going to check the mount on the T90 that was in it before the swap, I think it was off set. It would put my cross member back a little but I think tcase mount would line up better, but I would have to redrill frame to mount. I take it the T19A1 must be a little longer so it throws things off. Most of the pics I saw on here with the dauntless v6, they ran a single stick tcase and they don't have the mount pad, they mount on other side of trans straight out from the trans mount, but that would get in the way of my e-brake cable bracket. I will either run it this way or maybe come up with something else, I have time to change things as it will be awhile before its on the road.

    Rather than re-drilling the frame , Sometimes you can create a new pattern in the cross-member...........
