My '62 Rest-Mod

    *shrug* an hour with a paint brush and some semi-gloss black will take care of that. Much less work than pulling the tub...;)

    Yeah, the tub was off, but there just wasn't enough room to keep the rolling chassis inside and the tub and front clip separate. The only place where there's any overspray is a little in the wheel wells, on the front crossmember under the grill and the front frame horns. The rest of the time we had a piece of poly between the chassis and the tub that I put in place when we dropped the tub on the chassis. The stuff you can see on the top of the springs, axles and steering is just dust from sanding primer and paint that got under the poly, and should come off with a damp cloth.

    Well, Sunday was probably the most frustrating day working on the JEEP so far. I had a to-do list, wanting to wrap up everything so all that would be left for next weekend would be the wiring harness. And while I got everything (save one oil line, which came with the wrong fitting) done, the JEEP seemed to be fighting me every step of the way. The fan was hitting the fan shroud, thanks to the poly body mounts, which also moved the body up enough so the clutch pedal won't fully depress. And the pre-bent fuel lines didn't go in without major tweaking.

    But having said that, I kept going and got the fuel system plumbed, the cooling system plumbed, all the fluids back in, the plugs, wires, coil and solenoid in and the harness laid out in place. My only issue is that I'm pretty sure there wasn't a regulator with the alternator in the JEEP right now when I pulled everything apart. But I'm not sure. So while I have a new regulator, I need to figure out if I need it, and either way, how to hook up the alternator with the reproduction Walck's harness. I'm giving myself a couple of weekends to get the harness worked out, and then it'll be time to have my mechanic give it a once-over and inspect it, and hopefully have it on the road the 3rd week in June. :fingerscrossed:

    Well, another day, and the to-do list keeps getting shorter.

    I got the steering squared away, ran the speedo cable, drilled the corners and mounted the tail lights, got the oil lines squared away, got the head and parking lights in and did some more sorting of the harness, got most of the dash and hood stuff done, got the transmission tunnel bolted in and wrapped up the rest of the linkages.

    Still a bunch of miscellaneous stuff to wrap up, as well as tackling the rest of the wiring. My only concern is figuring out how to adjust the Walck's rerpoduction harness to the Delco regulated alternator the PO swapped in. But other than that, my last two Walck's orders (including shocks, miscellaneous switches and gauges, a terminal block and other goodies) and the HF tow bar should be arriving this week. But mid-June is looking more and more realistic to have it back on the road.

    Man, that's looking good!!! I'd love to see some photos shot in the sunlight. You do know that Walck's has reproductions of the original Hall taillights?

    I tried to pull it out Saturday, but I was getting some big-time dragging in the e-brake. So i need to do some adjusting on that before I can get it over the lip and out into the driveway. With any luck, I'll get some shots this weekend.

    As for the tail lights, I didn't realize they had them. The ones it came with are in pretty good shape, but I'll definitely keep that on the list of possibilities once the shock of spending twice my buget starts to wear off ;)

    The repro Halls are kinda pricey at ~$35 each, but your Jeep is looking so sweet and stock it kinda deserves them, IMO. I plan on them for mine. AFAIK, Walck's is the only place that has them. He has certain things made just for him, like I bought a front bumper from him that was a dead ringer for the original, only thicker steel....really nice.

    Yeah, I have their front bumper and it's great. Thanks again for the info on the tail lights. I'd definitely like to go that route at some point.

    It's a tough line to walk... Trying to find that balance of choice upgrades while keeping an overall stock look and feel. There are definitely some more things I'm looking to do long-term, but at this point I just want to get the damn thing on the road!

    lookin good, we'll have to compare notes on amount of cans Rustoleum used.
    I ended up so far at 23 cans orange, 6 cans black:)

    I didn't do the inside of the JEEP or the underside or wheel wells with the spray. For that I stuck with Rustoleum Hammered Black brush-on thinking it would be more durable and hide a lot of the... imperfections...

    As for the actual body, I ended up using the following:
    14 cans of Rustoleum Moss Green (Satin)
    6 cans of Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel
    4 cans of Rustoleum Black (Gloss)
    2 cans of Rustoleum Heirloom White (Gloss)
    I couldn't even begin to estimate how much of the Rustoleum Automotive Primer was used.
    I might end up needing to use a few more cans of the black and the white as I wrap up loose ends. But that's a pretty good total.

    I managed to sort the harness issues out, and things in the engine compartment look good to go. My friend Nate headed up with me to work on the JEEP, and between the two of us, we got 95% of the electrical squared away. All that's left is wiring the horn and wipers, the oil pressure sending unit and grounding the flasher unit. The Walck's replacement harness was pretty amazing! It was my first time wiring a vehicle, and it took less than 8 hours to wire the whole thing. And input from JohnO on wiring the alternator that was swapped in place of the generator/regulator, and Nate's help sorting out the few issues as they popped up really made the whole process go as well as could be expected.

    Anyway, I've got a few loose ends to take care of next weekend, and I'm hoping to try and fire it up for the first time since last August.

    You have built a really nice Jeep here. Good job. You got me thinking about those Off Your Rocker panels. Would you use them again?

    Your jeep looks so damn good i'm almost considering going to 1" lift and 31's instead of 2.5" and 34's. Very nice work!

    Thanks everyone.

    I'm very pleased with the 1" lift & 31" tires. I don't think I'd go any bigger without addressing the steering first.

    And I'd definitely go with the OYR panels again. The curve and cuts on ther corners match the body perfectly, and the same goes for the rockers. The steel arrived in great shape, and while it's time consuming to have to go around and drill all the holes yourself, you know you're not going to have any interferences if you lay them out yourself. I knew I wanted the smooth panels, and went back and forth about going with body color versus contrasting color. But I decided I prefered the "sleeper" look of the armor matching the body and I'm glad I went that route.
