    Oooo!!!! A package for me.

I got the aggressive clutch pack for the Power Lok, and I got a set of vacuum secondary springs for my Holley 4 barrel. Currently the spring that is in my vacuum is too stiff and the secondaries won't open. I stuck the light spring in but can't drive it til I get the rear end back together.

Still chipping away at things, although I'm noticing the to do lists aren't as overwhelming as they once were.

I did get my power loc (lok?) rebuilt with the aggressive clutch kit. I wasn't expecting it to be so tight. At first it really chattered and sounded like a ratchet but the instructions from Spicer says to drive it 10 miles and then do 8 figure 8's. I was nervous as I set out to do the 10 miles, it was noisier than I expected. But after the drive and the figure 8's I'm either used to the noise or it's better.

I had soaked the new clutch kit for 4 days in friction modifier so I was expecting smoother action at first but I guess not.

Who doesn't like a good sideways picture?

    Anyway

Rebuilding the power lok does require some attention to detail in how it comes apart and goes back together, I used yellow paint to keep track of what went where and then the 3rd time it went together perfect (y).

I'm not telling how many times I rebuilt my first T90. My excuse was I was 13 and Dad was 'helping' :D

I’m pretty sure I can hear your bad wheel bearing in the last 2 min of video when the go pro is filming on the body side. Great video!

    well actually, I did.

Yep, you sure can. It was just a matter of time for it to fail :waiting:. My night ended at around 1am.

This is where I abandoned the drive back to the truck on the last road in the video. At this point I thought I was having a drum brake problem.

I should have known it was wheel bearing but it didn't cross my mind that this leak would cause wheel bearing problems.

Here I'm pulling the brake shoes out thinking it was a brake issue
    [IMG]

Then towed it a long ways until we noticed sparks coming out and here we are around 11pm after waiting over 2 hours for a tow truck.

I had to tow it to a friends house and leave it there. I only have 5 mile AAA coverage, my house was about 80 miles away and my friends house was only 8 miles. Cost me $40. It was a nightmare, you can't get the tow truck back into his house so we dropped it 1/4 mile away at 11:30pm. I drove it back into his house which is really hard to find at night and by the time I got back in the truck to head 70 something miles home it was midnight. Keep in mind this is after a great nights rest in a tent :n: and then most of the day wheeling and swimming. I was so tired when I got home I thought I would fall asleep in the shower.

that sucks while you're in the middle of it

but stories like this will never be forgotten, and passed down in the tribe when the time comes

(upvote the extra expensive AAA platinum coverage I've used only once or twice while no where NEAR home, and without my ruby red slippers)

We made the best of it, I'm not an angry throwing things yelling at the slow tow truck driver type. It was a really nice night with clear skies and nice temps, just sorta relaxing and waiting. The kids were in the truck singing along to crazy songs and laughing while we waited. My buddy in the Wrangler had a great attitude about it as well, we laughed about it a few times. I have a great video of him spraying water on my axle tube when we realized it was bearing not brakes. It was crazy hot, just boiled the water off immediately. My biggest concern was my buddy would be too tired to drive home and have an accident (that would be tough to live with), I stopped at one point and told him my daughter could drive my truck and I could drive his Jeep but he was good to go.

A few days later we opted to upgrade our AAA service and I was thinking I would just go back up the hill and have it towed down after the upgrade went into affect. I drove up to my friends, put the tow bar back on and towed the Jeep out to where the tow truck could access it. Called AAA and when the tow company called back he was not at all motivated to tow it 68 miles for me. First he tried getting me to lose interest with a 4 hour wait. He eventually figured out it already had been towed and you can't tow a vehicle twice on the same breakdown. So hook it all back up and tow it back to my buddies. I'm renting a trailer this Wednesday to go get it :waiting:, taking forever to get it home.

Yeh would have been a bummer up in the hills, actually with the slow speeds the bearing wasn't really getting hot and I didn't even realize what was going on. This was basically a shakedown run after all the modifications so I was expecting some sort of surprise.

On a positive note I don't think I'll be repairing it without upgrading some things. No way I'm putting the drum brakes back on and I have a flanged axle sitting in the garage. I'm struggling to decide on just moving my power-lok over to the flanged axle or convert my other axle to a full float setup. Either way I gotta research what donor vehicle I can steal the disc brakes off of. I have a narrow track D30 with disc brakes and calipers, might see how much of that I can pillage.

Yeah the sierra buttes are special. No Salmon this year. I've been fishing the Klamath since I was a kid and this is the first time it was a total bust. It always amazing to spend time on the river though...magical place.

If I just had a nice T-bone steak could have cooked it up perfectly on this axle. Listen to that sizzle.

I hope there’s still some bearing left and the axle faired ok. I drove my 81 cj5 back home from a football game and the axle started to slide in and out. I made it back but I destroyed a few parts in the process.

Say now’s a good time to do a FF D44
