Keep in mind that the extra webbing inside the channel is going to force you to mount these lower than your old ones.

I would go as thick as you can, maybe 3/16". Mine are 1/8" and I have definitely bent them a bit, especially on the Rubicon. I don't remember how high they are, maybe 2" but I I added a flat piece higher for more protection. I personally would go at least 4".

I made a new to do list and actually started doing them.

    Battery hold down done

Made some aluminum things to hold my plug wires up

Made these offset plates to mount my shocks. I decided to just mount them to the stock location on the spring perch plate. I'm making recessed U-bolt plates and have plans to incorporate the shock mount into them up out of the way. But I'm tired of waiting for me to finish those so this will get me driving better in the meantime.

You can see the stock location in this pic, that was just enough forward to hit my drag link at full lock so I had to offset them a bit.

Worked on the center console some more. It just needs a latch, a piece of carpet to fit in the top and 4 bolts to bolt it in.

I didn't have any bolts so I drove it to Home Depot to get some.

And took some pics when I got home just because it's cheap to develop these digital pics.

Since I've owned this Jeep anything past half throttle and the Jeep has always stumbled and fell on it's face. I recently replaced plugs thinking that might help (didn't). Lately everything has become suspect in my quest to understand why it won't run good past half throttle. Finally I learned this weekend that I don't have the linkage that opens the secondaries on my carburetor :n:

So I made some makeshift linkage and boom!!! It runs hard now.

Need to look into getting the correct piece here.

I worked on the Jeep all weekend and made some good progress, a lot of it doesn't show.

I secured a bunch of wiring, made a heat shield for my fuel line where it crosses above my exhaust and also a bracket to make sure my fuel line never comes in contact with the exhaust. My brake line to the rear had a leak so I fixed that and bled them again. Now that I have a few miles on my rebuilt front axle I noticed my wheel bearings were loose so tightened those and replaced the broken stud on the hub, and broke another after replacing that one and then fixed that. Those hub nuts break easy for being pretty big.

I moved the license plate which was next to the spare like so
    [IMG]

    to here
    [IMG]

The license plate hit the bumper when I would fold down the spare tire, you can see it's all bent up from forgetting it hits :(

I drove it in 4 wheel drive for the first time since the new front axle, which was also the first time I've ever heard the lunchbox locker pop when it comes unlocked. That will take some getting used to. 4x worked good but my t-case shifter is really difficult to get in and out of 2h-4h-4l, is there a common cause for this or something I can do to improve it's operation?

Worked on the rock sliders a bunch. I decided to add a couple of small steps to them since I don't seem to be getting any more flexible in my old age.

Just need to smooth all the edges and corners now. I'll paint and install this week hopefully.

I think I finished my center console, about the only thing it could use is a lock on the lid. I should seal up the bottom of it and it could double as a cooler.

And my kids asked me to take them to Fry's electronics for computer stuff, they had a friend over and he was interested in the Jeep so we took it to Fry's. This was my first freeway experience since all the work and it's cruises really nice, in fact I like it better on the freeway than on the city streets.

I think the next priority is some small tubing to extend the bikini top over the rear seats, I don't like the CJ7 length top on my 5, and it directs the wind perfectly onto rear passenger faces

The only thing I can't figure out is my idle is sporadic sometimes. On the trip to Fry's it was idling pretty high but on the way home it was idling just slightly high. I drove it to work this morning and it was idling really high, I could just about take off on idle. Everytime I adjust the idle where I like it, it changes next time I drive it .

Looking at the parking garage shot really motivates me to get that diamond plate off the rear corners

Do you have a thread on your full float conversion?

Has anybody documented a full float 30 spline axle conversion on here somewhere?

It's embarrassing how much I rely on you guys for understanding this stuff.

I took pictures prepping for a thread, but it was so easy to do, I never made the thread.

Well I just went to Youtube University and I learned a whole lot about my carburetor. Mine is not a mechanical advance like I thought and that piece of linkage I am missing is actually to prevent the secondaries from getting stuck open. So my zip-tie trick did work to force my secondaries open but that's not the correct solution. I need to see if I have the correct spring rate on my vacuum secondaries. I learned how to tell if they are opening in the highest gear by using a paper clip. Hopefully test that tomorrow.

These are very thick on the bottom edge, hopefully offer some protection.

I hear it moved under it's own power... It's together enough (y). Besides my friend is really looking forward to using his new winch for the first time :D.
