I've decided rather than going the easy spray-bomb route, I'm going to paint my '71 CJ-6 in its original minty-green color after I finish the body work. I've looked at all the paint samples posted here and elsewhere and haven't quite found one that matches. Most of the paint chip cards I've seen leave a gap between the years of 1969 and 1972. Is this because they were using the same paint codes issued in the 1969 card up through 1971, or as my User Name suggests, am I just too stupid to find the correct card?

Help me out before I break out the can of Caterpillar yellow.

    Thanks

i found a splotch for '71 at the paint shop... they're out there. but the minty green i was looking for didn't match the furthest down layer of paint on the jeep. think i went with mint green metallic from a 72 amc chip... it was the closest thing available to the gold/green color that was hiding on the jeep.

Do you still have the paint / trim code tag for your Jeep? My '71 was in Avacado Mist Poly, color code 431, Ditzler (PPG) color 44115. Also available were Spruce Tip Green, 392, 43038 and Spring Green, 433, 44189. My guess is that if you are looking for a darker color Spruce Tip is correct and if lighter then Spring Green.

IIRC, Boyink has a photo of an early 5 that was a bright green (photo from a jeep show maybe??). Maybe if you saw that color, we could track it down for you. Just a thought...

No paint code tag. I'm guessing it's closest to the Spring Green. That'll do. I'm not doing a concourse resto. Thanks for all the suggestions/info.

My '69 is Spring Green, code 433. I had paint mixed at our local auto paint store with a 98% match to original. If needed, I can supply their information.

I think the '71 I parted out was that color (Spruce Green). I like it!

I put a black denim soft top on my '69 with the Spring Green...looks great! I ordered the top without snaps so I could match up with only set of snaps on the Jeep. I think I got the last top Kayline made before going out of business...

Hard to tell that's even green in the pic...but I do like the color on the chip - looks "old"..;)

The pics Dennis was thinking of were these (look for the Jeep next to the one being photographed):

Those pics look a bit more "minty" than the Spring Green...and the Jeep looks like maybe an early Tux?

At any rate - I'll be anxious to see the finished product. I'm still undecided on eventual finished color for SSDutch.

Not nearly. I know forest service green. This is not.

    This is almost light yellow.

That looks just like military "pool car cream". All of our Chrysler K-cars were that color 25 years ago. It looks like light cream paint with a green hue.

You get the same color when making Thai: 1 can of coconut milk and a teaspoon of green curry. :D

Cream with a green hue is a good way to describe it.

I really dig it. Looks great on Kevin's Jeep.
