So I bought a nice ol 67 cj5 and it doesn't have a rear veiw mirror. I ordered one from quadretech for my year and now I'm utterly confused about where to put this thing. It has three holes at the mounting point to apparently bolt or screw it on. Well my jeep apparently never had a mirror because there are no holes or screws to mount it with on the windshield frame. In fact where I'm guessing it goes there is a big latch on the outside of the windshied frame that I'm guessing attatches to the hood when it's folded down even though there is nothing on the hood for it to attatch too. I'm thinking my jeep has had some work. Anyway I'm not thrilled about the idea of more bolts on the outside of my windsheild frame, nor screws protruding through and I don't know if I could do it anyway due to the latch being there. Anyone have one of these type of mirrors and can give me a little guidence. I also have a mirror I can mount to the windshield but I'd like to keep my jeep somewhat stock looking if I can.

The mirror mounts on the inside at the top, center of the windshield frame. The latch is for holding the hood in the up position so it doesn't come slamming down on your head on a windy day.

So mount it to the upper upper part of the frame where it is for lack of better description hollow or just below that where it is not? I'm drilling holes so I want too be sure I put it in the correct spot.

I know I'm going to sound like a big dummy over this, but anyone got a pic of how their mirror is mounted. If I go to the very top channel of the frame there's not enough room to mount it. If I go to the flat part of the frame I'll have holes all the way through my windshield frame.

i believe your suposed to use sheet metal screws and screw it into the frame itself that way it wont need to go all the way through

This is the mirror for 1970 / 1971 (maybe other years also). It mounts the the inside of the outer frame of the windshield frame (the hollow part you referenced above) with two screws. Maybe the mirror you purchased is not correct.

Mark that mirror looks like a match. The one I recieved from quadretech is kinda janky to begin with and it has three holes to mount it with. The mounting portion is flat and doesn't conture with the windshield frame.

I think I bought the same "janky" mirror. I ended up screwing a heavy gauge, rectangular pc of metal the the windshield frame (two sheetmetal screws) and then screwed the mirror to the flat pc of metal (three machine screws with locknuts).

It was probably overkill but I also wanted to lower the position of the mirror because 1)I'm not very tall, 2) I can see out the back with the soft top on better with the mirror lower, and 3) I have a front roll bar just on the inside of the windshield.

The rectangular pc of steel was about 14 gauge and was about two inches wide by about 2.5" tall. Painted black.

    Just an idea.

I see from your post you live in Cadillac, I live in Gladwin 60 miles or so east of you on m-61. I also have a 67 cj5 if you want to see where the mirror sets, but my mirror looks diff. than the pictures. I used self tappers with a rubber grommet to help with vibration.

Hey Mike I might have to take you up on that. I was just through Gladwin on Tues. Anyway I'm pretty sure that my jeep has been pretty much cobbled together although it is solid. I'd like to take a look at another and compair notes for sure. Do you have the 134ci?
