I picked this up and it had the usual rear panel cut out (why always with a torch??)

and i needed to figure out what i was going to do.

I was hemming and hawing about making it a worknig tailgate or to solid mount it again.

Well i decided to make it one piece again. All the trailers i had that i made with a tailgate, well i did not use it as much as I thought i would.

I was going to use the 1x1 square tubing for a frame to put my original steel on, but i did not think it would really match.

I ended up cutting out some sheetmetal and bending it to match the angles of the tub.

Then i cut out the rotted sides of the original panel and with a strip of steel i mated the original to the new metal.

It will look a bit more original than the square tubing route. once i smooth teh selds and sand blast it, it should work pretty good.

The landing leg is on order, so i should have a complete trailer.

I got the back of the tub all welded up.

Brought it outside for some sun

Then i decided why not take it all apart, sand down and paint the frame.

Now to decide about sand blasting. I got a quote for $1500 for the tub. I almost fell out of my chair.

I could buy my own sand blasting setup for that. I guess they didnt really want to do the job.

Looks great. I think they gave you the " we don't want to do it " price. That seems about double what I get things done for here, with primer.

Looking good, and yep I bought my own rig and blasted mine for less than $200, not counting my time.

Nice job on the tail panel repair.
If you get a sand blaster, make sure it is a pressure pot style. The syphon feed units just don't work very efficiently, and use a lot more sand. Mine is home-made, using a heavy truck air storage tank as the main component. The only part I needed to purchase are the expendable ceramic tips (and tip holder if you don't have a lathe). The rest is just pipe fittings, valves, and rubber hose.

I still have not decided on a blaster. i took tomorrow off and will go and look. the tub has lots of flat panels so i may just sand and wire wheel spots. This is not a restoration, it will get used so i am not going to make it a concourse trailer :)

I ended up painting the frame tan today. Still need to get some new tires. hence why i just painted the rims on the tires without a care. the tires are really dry rotted.

The trailer is done and ready to take camping!!
I removed the dry rotted 600/16 and put some 255/70/16 on the wheels and it fits great.
