How’s it going guys making a little build log for my Jeep doing a bumper build. First time really fabricating Anyang before. Here’s a before picture of the Jeeps rear bumper.

For what ever reason the jeeps bumper is shorter about 3 inch’s on one side. My goal for the bumper is to get my rear tire mounted and adding some rock protection for the rear end. I decided to use 3 by 2 square tubing for the main piece and 1 3/4 for the tire mount and support.

The main issue I ran in to is the old bumper is actually riveted in the the frame. So bumper mounting I decided to use the 3 by 2 tubing i cut it in half ( really wish I had a plasma cutter for this lol but angle grinder did the trick). And used Grade 8 bolts and the factory bumper holes to mount it.[IMG]

If anyone has an 2 cents on to better mount the bumper it’d be very appreciated still not if that’s best way to go. Tomorrow I’m gonna head over to my local ruff stuff specialty. Gonna pick up a tire mounting plate and a couple of D Ring tabs for some good recovery points.

I like it, keep us updated on your progress. FYI the off set of the rear cross-member to the driver's side is normal.

For a good reason. That's where the tailpipe is supposed to be.

I guess you don't need this to swing out or fold down since you don't have a tailgate. Mounting looks good to me. Good to see another Sacramento member (y)

Still gotta weld on my D-Ring tabs and cap the open end tubing but I’m pretty pleased on how it’s turning out!

Definitely I think my next project is to do a 4 speed transmission swap. I went over to J&W Jeep wrecking yard to price out some trans they’re on the more expensive side, but I’m still scouring craigslist

A to Z fabrication sells these, they weld on to your bumper and allow you to bolt your bumper on from inside the rear cross member. They have many other bumper fabrication parts as well. I’m jealous that you are so close to Ruff Stuff Specialties, they have great products!

    You are a good welder.

I'll keep my eye out for a 4-speed around here. Need any gas tanks? I've got a between frame mount tank that's real nice and a nice under seat tank.

Actually I do. My stock under the seat tank makes my driver side tub 3-4 inches deeper than the passenger side. What year cj tank do you have ? I was debating going that route or try and make a fuel cell for the rear

Sorry for nooby question so my Jeep has a 225 odd fire with An adapter plate to T90/Dana 18 tc. So my understanding that any GM trannies should work with my current Bellhousings right? The only thing I would need to get is an adapter to the transmission to Transfer case Along with new drive lines right?

Thanks man I’ll check them out. I might just make some tabs that that bolts go through the back of the the cross member.

Mines a 67. Not sure how your tank would make your tub deeper, got any pics of that? Anyway you can have both tanks if you want them, I have no use for them and they are in my way. The rear tank is out of a CJ-7, you will probably need to make a mount for it like Danefraz did on his build, but it should fit fine. 69 Dauntless Project - the 'Heep'

Lot's of people run both under seat and rear tank for the extra capacity. That was my original plan before I built a new tank.

Here's my unfinished thread. Pics of the tanks in there somewhere.

Here’s a picture of my tub on the drive side. The m38a1 stock tank size is 17 gallons instead of the cj5 10.5 gallons. I got a measurement for the tank it’s 10.5 inches.
