What are the differences in the Loredo and the Renegade? I'm looking at a 79 CJ-5 Renegade and an 81 CJ-5 Loredo.

    Thanks, John

At that point, they were mostly just trim packages. The Loredo was more sporty than the stock stance.

The Renegade package, either I or II, was an options package that offered goodies that improved the look and performance of the vehicle. Several different options were available including a roll bar, swing away tire carrier, a limited slip rear-end, different gages, tires, wheels, paint, and decals. The package evolved over time and in 1974, became a regular production option, rather than the previous special sales order. In 1969, an options package, number 462, was offered that seems to have evolved into the Renegade. There is some documentation offered somewhere here at ECJ5 that discusses Renegades.

Over the years, several trim and option packages were offered. In addition to the aforementioned Renegade and Levi’s (1975-1986) packages, also the Golden Eagle (1977-1980), the Golden Hawk (1980), the Jamboree Edition (1982 CJ-7 only), the Laredo (1980-1986), the Limited (1982-1983), the Silver Anniversary (1979 CJ-5), and the Super Jeep (1973, 1976-1977) were all offered. Mostly, these were graphics, paint, accessory packages, however, some, like the Renegade, offered performance upgrades and modifications.

Thanks for the info...I'll research more on the boards. It's nearly impossible to find a CJ-5 for sale in the Portland, Oregon area...or even Seattle for that matter. I'm resigned to having to go to Salt Lake or even Phoenix. Anyone ever ship a vehicle? Any problems with that? Cost?
