Is it the rivits that prevent the use of 11" drums?

Can you run these tubless with the rivets?

No, it is the shape of the backside of the rim itself. About 1" from the back bead you will see a large "step" where the rim then meets up with the wheel center. This step hits the caliper in such a way that it is not even close to fitting on my D25 with the GM calipers installed. The AMC calipers *might* clear, but since the rotors on both setups are the same diameter I think it's probably pretty doubtful.

And yes, the riveted rims will hold air, as long as they aren't rusted or otherwise damaged.

If you compare the pictures, you'll see that the 15x8 rim has a much smaller-diameter center disc, and the rim is formed to accomodate that. This is where the clearance issue comes into play.

Here's the step I was referring to on the 15x8 rim:

And here's the same area on a 15x6 disc-brake rim from a late CJ:

Do the stock 16" wheels fit over disk brakes?

I dunno honestly, I've never owned a set of 16 rims.

Actually, once things warm up a bit I'm going to have Dad's M-38 over here to do a brake job on it and I'll have the opportunity to try one of his stock rims on my Jeep. I'll letcha know, but it won't be for a while...

For future reference so some poor sap like me doesn't get caught again, they don't fit over the AMC calipers either.

Hear that ljspop? Don't buy any for the M38...
