Jr just bought this '74 Jeep. Has a 304 and a 3speed tranny with a PTO and Ramsey's winch running off the PTO (not sure how to work the PTO if it is different than most).
Not sure yet what tranny is in it or the axle ratio (have to examine it closer this weekend).
Has a gas tank in the rear and a tank under the drivers seat w/a valve to switch tanks (dual tanks).

    Sweet Jeep.

Nice! I just scored a PTO myself, but no winch.

How are the shifters laid out? It's not to hard to decipher. Do you know if it's single or dual output?

Nice score. Lots of original looking parts still there. Can you get pics of the front seats? Yours look original and I need a reference pic to show my upholstery guy.

Does it have the cable operated PTO housing that bolts to the Dana 20 in place of the lower pan? Make sure the lever on the winch is disengaged(freewheeling) before you test out the PTO.

Doesn't look like it's going to be a difficult project that's for sure. Nice Jeep.

I'll get pics this weekend hopefully of the seat/trans etc (seats look almost new). Yes it is a single shift t-case handle but I think I can run a twin stick. I made my CJ8 a twin stick w/another D-300 lever. Anyone have a 20 lever laying around? Not sure it would work w/that year-have to look under the Jeep once we gunk everything.

    More to come.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Can the 11" drum front brakes be changed out to disc? If so-parts list or what to do?

    Thanks again,
    Jim

Unless you run a lot of mud, or just don't like drums, the 11inch drums are plenty.

Here are some pics of the front seat and PTO linkage. Not sure how to work it yet-didn't feel like laying on the ground to take pics but will when we gunk/de-grease the Jeep.

Question, is that a chain or gear driven PTO off the case. I know the T-case is gear but not sure about the adapter.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Is that a Dana 20? I'm a little confused by what I see.

If it's a D20, it's both gear and chain IIRC. Bolts onto the transfer case, then sends power to the chain.

These are for full sized jeeps, but you get the idea.

    Thanks.

    I think it is a D-20.

After I clean it up, I will do a video of the setup so we can get a better understanding of the linkage.

Is there a manual for this Ramsey winch and the setup/linkage ?

There may be, but I do not have one. I imagine they are not that complicated.

Ok thanks all-I'll have to look at it closer and also the drive gear at the winch as well. I like how the winch sets lower in the bumper/frame.

    More pics to come :)

    Thanks again,
    Jim

Is there a GOOD post for drilling the drums ?

Is it best to turn the drums before you drill ?

    Thanks,
    Jim

I recall that some here have done this - there are some links online, and old posts here.

I don't think it matters whether you surface the drums before or after. If there are any burrs, they will be gone with first application of the brakes.

Realize that the '75 (and '74?) drums are finned, which will make your drilling task more challenging. The '72-3 drums are the same, without the fins. I would buy a set of the '72 drums, and drill them. You'll need an indexing head on a mill (?) or some such. I recall someone here made their own indexer and mounted it on their drill press, then made a pattern on mylar to lay out the hole locations.

Here's the Centric '72 part, ca $21 each.
