Yes, looks like a professional crimp. Unlikely they were done on the line; I would guess that Jeep figured they were going to sell some quantity of Renegades and had some sub or worker modify the regular production harness. They'd need to make enough to keep up with production plus whatever they put into warehouse stock. Should be in the parts book.

By all appearances the mileage looks original, vehicle must have been garaged for a extended period to. Look this good after 49 yrs I would love to see it some day in person but for now we have tech to help. I would love a pic of the wiring at fairwall from engine compartment. Are the tires original I ask because I purchases some time ago a pic from Jeep advertising of your very vehicle 1972 cj5 renegade in plum

The tires are not original, but the spare has the original 1972 Polyglass Suburbanite tire on it. I know for sure the mileage is original. One of my best friends father bought it new. I've known this Jeep for 30 years.

Just let me know what pics you'd like and I'll snap them. I see the Jeep daily.

Congrats on that beautiful jeep! True time warp. I have a 1972 CJ5 with a 922 build date on the rad cowl. Your emission sticker is identical, in fact the cracks on the sticker have occurred in the same place!!! (joking). I have to look for the "R" next time I see the jeep to see if that was a thing in Sept of 1971 also.

Curious though - is your gas tank under the seat with side fill an add? I have a rear fill tank.

This Jeep has a rear tank and a tank under the drivers seat with the side fill.

The under-seat tank is an owner addition. I did the same thing to my new 1973 in 1973. Fairly easy addition, even today, that will give you an additional 11 gallons of fuel capacity.

Jeep switched to the rear-mounted tank in 1970-ish. That change was mandated by new safety standards that required the tank to be outside the passenger compartment.
