I just got my new HV oil pump from TA Performance and installed it. Came with a couple hair-thick gaskets. With the two 'thin' gaskets, there was 0 endplay, nothing moved.

I had a gasket from the gasket kit for the engine rebuild that was about 4x thicker.

Instructions from TA Performance said endplay should be 0.001 to 0.005.

I now have good oil volume using a 2ft screw driver to turn the pump (thru to the heads and rockers).

Update: The timing cover has been shipped back to Bulltear who will figure out why the pump gears wont turn. I even bought a different oil adapter gasket to see if that would change things... nope.

I have installed the Pertronix Ignitor II on my distributor. I had to take out the roll pin which holds on the distributor gear at the bottom to install a washer to take play out of the distributor. Pretty easy all in all.

I already had their 'Flame Thrower' coil and their Flame Thrower plug wires. I picked up a new cap and rotor as well while I was at it. The wiring was easy. I took apart the engine wiring harness and ran wires from the distributor to the coil

I will wait to pull my steering column to figure out that issue until I get the engine all buttoned up (see my other post).

Once the timing cover comes back I should be able to move quickly....

    Update!!

I sent back the timing cover and all peripheral parts back to Bulltear. They assembled it with a bigger gasket on the oil adapter and it is good to go!

Today I installed the timing cover and water pump. The timing cover was a challenge to install due to the rubber gasket at the bottom that goes to the oil pan. The gasket pushes up the whole cover. I put in the passenger side and got it on the pin. I then tapped the driver side onto the pin. The bottom rubber gasket got tweaked ever so slightly. I hope with the RTV on there I won't have any leaks.

Next.... Harmonic balancer, lower pulley, distributor, wrap wiring harness ( added Pertronix Ignitor) and alternator

Well it's been a while! Looks like October was my last update. I had a hip replacement in December ( am I a restomod or am I restored??) which kept me out of the garage for a while.

One of my issues was that I was going to go with the CVF Racing alternator mount but I just didn't like it on my setup. So I had modified my original one by cutting off the bottom with the thought of installing an expansion fitting to go from the bottom of the bracket to the alternator bug it just didn't work. Sooo... it took me a while to find a new one. Then I wanted to be cheap and I dint want to get the bracket powder coated so I painted it. Multiple layers... it looked great! When I was installing it and test fitting the alternator the bracket was getting scratched. Man... I just couldn't take it!! Off to the powder coater! I could not be happier! Worth every penny....

You may have seen my post on the harmonic balancer. It would go on but not all of the way. I estimate that it is 1/4 inch out. It will not go any further. I can get the water pump pulley to line up by shimming it a slight bug and the alt bracket too. I have wrapped the wiring harnesss with the new wiring going to the new alt.

Also, my oil sending unit was hitting the back of the alt. A 90 degreee 1/8 NPT fitting did the trick.

Harmonic balancer Done/ lower pulley Done / distributor ( added Pertronix Ignitor) Done

To Do: install alternator/ belt, install fan, radiator hoses, move horn location down, install grill/ radiator.

I will probably remove the steering column and install new bushings while I have the grill off. I have no bottom bushing and it thumps every time you steer!!!!

So.... wow it has been a while!!

I wanted to rebuild the steering column. I pulled it out and took it apart. I had to destroy the wheel to get it off. I tried to get it off in one piece but when I put pressure on the wheel the 'skirt' portion that goes over the steering column cracked.... I then proceeded to get out the grinder.

In removing the inner shaft I stripped the threads that hold the nut which keeps the steering wheel on.... uggg. See my other thread about my quest to find a new shaft. I bought a full column with a wheel off of eBay. I paid up but I had no choice.

The column has turned out to be expensive:

    $50 Powdercoat Column
    $180 2nd Column
    $25 Rust Remover
$45 Grant GT Wheel with adapter

Ohhhh... I really hated that the lower bearing is just (on mine) a machined brass ring and not a ball bearing. I tried to find a kit to remedy that but could not find one. Boy the solution was simple.... I bought a flanged bearing with ball bearings. It is 22mm inner diameter and 37mm outer. I may need to macine it to make it fit.

F6904ZZ Flanged Bearing 20x37x9 Shielded Bearing

The column should be back in this week then it's time to get her back on the road!!!!

    She lives!!

I buttoned everthing up and had the Jeep flatbeded to a shop near me.

They recommended a MSD distributor and control box. It wasn't cheap but I really want it to run well. We also ended up doing a larger carb. Even with a lot of tuning they could not get enough air down the Holley 390cfm carb. We went up to a 750 double pumper 4150 HP carb. It is really really fast now! Tons of power.

Thanks to the help of everyone on here all of the work that I did was perfect. A sincere thank you! I could not have done it with out all of the help from members on this forum.

Next projects?? New stainless brake lines fron the master to the porportioning valve / big project to remove heater box and controls and clean up wiring / Dynamat the firewall & floor/ remove heat duct mount off of the exhaust manifold and re-Jett Hot coat/ Wilwood disc brakes/ new leaf springs..... all a question of time and $$$$!!!!
