    On the Rochester 2GC used with the 225; is the brass inlet filter a by-pass type? I know there is a relief spring in the carb inlet housing, and am curious if that is it's sole purpose...

    Yep that's about it. That same spring is also used on the fiber/paper filter as well. Both filters (when plugged) will apply pressure against the spring allowing the by-pass. Rochesters were not the only carb's that used this principle.
