Can anyone identify this carrier? I've had it forever, and I can't remember what it came from. I suspect that it has to be a Dana 25, 27, or 30, based on its size. It has a ring gear on it that's a 3.54 ratio. I've attached a picture of the markings. It says "Dana D 42701".

    Dana 27?

Not a 25 and as an FYI that is a differential CASE, not a carrier. A carrier is the part that houses the case, drive pinion, ring gear, bearings, etc.
hopefully someone with the correct parts books can look up that number. If not I probably can later this week.

After thinking about it more and more, I'm *almost* sure it's a Dana 30. It has a 3.54 ring gear on it, which wouldn't have came in Dana 25 or 27. I'm pretty sure this came from the front of a '79 CJ7, which was transplanted to a friend's M38 and regeared to 5.38. Which required a series 4 carrier, leaving this one left over.

But, if anyone has the parts book and can confirm, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks again!

    That's what I think..... 3.54 ratio = D30

    D25 ring gear = 7-11/16" O.D.
    D27 ring gear = 7-1/16" O.D.
    D30 ring gear = 7-1/16" O.D.

    D25 pinion = 8-1/4" OAL.
    D27 pinion is 8-7/16" OAL.
    D30 pinion is 7-5/16" OAL.

D42701 is a Dana part reference and not a Jeep number.
It merely identifies the ring gear only and not the case.

D25 case uses 24780 carrier bearings
D27 case uses LM501349 carrier bearings.
D30 case uses LM501349 carrier bearings.
