I picked up a column today. Guy said 76, but not sure looking at parts diagrams. It looks like my original on my 69, but it has the plastic cover by the turn signal. Came off a saginaw setup.

Does this use the same horn kit for all the earlier cj5's? Just run the wire and solder to the brass sleeve instead? I see where the wire would go but I'm missing the button and switch. No wire either, but an insulation sleeve is still there.

A '76 uses the GM column - completely different. If it's a bus wheel column, it's '75 or earlier. Should be the same as the earlier column, but I can't confirm because I'm away from my books. There is a window in the column for the horn wiper, and a plastic cover with a brush to the horn. Big rubber button, brass cup, concave brass disk inside the rubber button, and a spring-loaded contact. Likely there is a diagram online somewhere.

Yea, it would be a 75 and lower with the wiper arm for the contact.
So is the actual spring loaded contact that sits in the center of the shaft the same? Just exits out the side instead of going down the length of the tube like a ross setup?

The horn contact has a late 60s PN 990413, so it's likely the same as the earlier contact that goes to a wire down the column. Yes, it exits out (or "enters in" depending on your electrical POV) the side of the column. There is a brass collar on the column that contacts a wiper on a plastic mount in the side of the tube. A short length of primary wire connects the collar to the horn button contact.

    Hi,
I am working on 1 1974 Jeep Cj5 renegade, I too am looking for a horn brush. Does anyone know if the earlier horn brushes that the Willy’s take can be modify to work on the 72-75 models?
