has anyone used this torch for welding and cutting?

i will probably be looking to set up a gas torch this fall with some grant money. but need to keep it within reason. $500 or less. i haven't really used an oxy/acet torch for about 30 years.

i had read about these and seen some demos on line. i like the fine control and being able to supposedly have as much control as tig for small projects and body sheet as well as plate steel, frame and exhaust repair, heavier fabrication parts.
supposed to be more efficient than standard torches.

if i get a standard torch i will have to also get a meco midget as well for about $135 add'l

i will need to get tanks (about 125 cu ft?), hoses, and maybe new regs if the ones i have (an old victor oxy and an old airgas acet) are shot or cost too much to have rebuilt.

    too good to be true?
    suggestions? opinions? experience?

I've read their web site - certainly sounds good.

Having only welded with gas, I'd be tempted to get one instead of an electric welder. IMO a gas setup is more versatile, although I understand it's harder to learn than MIG.

after looking at the streaming videos it does seem slick. of course the people demonstrating are amazingly good...

i agree with the gas torch being more versatile. and with the higher temp of the dhc as opposed to the regular torch it allows more types rods.

Zed - please keep me posted on how this works. I looked into after reading your post and think it looks like it has some real possibilities. I have mig and gas - might look at this as a cheaper plasma setup for the body work I need to do this winter. I was supposed to be able to get a plasma setup this summer, but some medical bills got in the way.

np warloch. i'm still trying to find out as much as i can. maybe get some info from those with personal experience.

right now it seems to be split between those that love it and those who feel that they can do the same with a conventional rig. i dont know about that last thing after read the theory esp. the way it is supposed to keep air from swirling into the weld area like a conventional torch. thus, doing the same thing as the shielding gas in tig.

i'll add to this thread as i find out more. and of course i hope that others will also .
