I have the new distributor. I ground enough to get it seated, but not enough to get the cap on. How much more do I go and what do I do with the bolt?

Get a button head bolt. The cap should fit then.

Thanks, that is what I figured. Still need to take a little to get the cap to fit. Going to be tight!

45 degree angle on the bolt head and half the thickness of the flange. You'll see that this hangs over the head and wont hurt a thing. You can run that way till you find the correct button head-which is covered here many times. Mine is still that way, and I've had to pull the intake once since I ground it.

I had to remove one of the distributor cap hold down screw bosses to get mine to fit. Works fine though.

I /we always ground the whole "flat" part of the intake down and not an angle, then use an allen headed button top bolt. Never had any trouble with the intake sealing and things staying put. I raced mine, friends around using them on the street and no problem

Ok, still have some questions....If I read the instructions correctly then the vacuum advance should be pointing pretty much straight forward. If so, then I will have to go to an electric fan.

Also, I know homersdog, had to remove the hold-down boss, did everyone else?

I took some pictures to give you all some reference...

    Thanks,

The last pic looks good. the top pic does not. might need to clock it a bit different . I do have issue of limited ability to turn the distributor because the Batt /Tach where it conncects to coil does hit the intake. It does not affect proper timing though.

Looks like you have plenty of room to put a spacer behind the fan. You only need about an inch between the fan and the radiator.

I didn't even notice the lack of spacer behind the fan. Mine has a spacer, hence my lack of your issue.

I had to remove the spacer to give me enough room for the aftermarket radiator. I can add it back but would only have about 1/4" from fan and two outlets on bottom of radiator.

Pretty easy to build your way right into a box. That is a really big radiator for a V6. Soooo have you thought about a Pertronix unit in a stock housing?

I also have a giant radiator in my jeep, well used to have it in there. Buy an electric fan, or go pertronix?

You can clock the radiator and space the fan a tad (they come in small increments, or use a band saw). I've seen tight setups where the vac advance was more out under the radiator hose (far left on bottom pic). Where the housing lines up is less important than getting TDC on the proper post #1.

    I did.

Here's mine...Runs great! My vacuum advance is further CCW then most I've seen posted on the web. It idles at 650 RPM and is about 9* BTDC. The rotor lines up with post #1 on the cap at TDC.
    Plugged vacuum line.
    Idles at 650 RPM.
    Timing at 9*.
    Under acceleration it's at 17*.

    Connected vacuum line.
    Idles at 650 RPM.
    Timing at 9*.
Under acceleration it's at 32* max.

I thought I would post this pic for a visual to the free degree wheel technique Rich Motts describes. I didn't try writing a "2" or "4"...It was hard enough making the "3".

Yep, so it seems. The two core would have saved me a little room, not sure enough. I will either go with electric fan.....or a bomb! grin!
