I've hooked up my heater but it doesn't work the way I've got everything attatched. I was going to try and explain my current set up but pictures are so much easier. So here they are. My heating element does not heat up. I've run the engine and I'll get up to operating temp and no heat.
From the pics the hoses are labled A and B. Neither of them get hot. And neither of them are kinked or pinched. Hose A comes off of my engine block heater, which comes off the drain cock from the bottom of my radiator. A then goes to the incab heater and the outlet hose B is connected to the heater adapter tube on the water pump.
The outlet hose B is correct but my inlet hose A should be comming off of the intake manifold, right behind the water outlet elbow (yellow arrow). So the question is where would I then attatch the temperature sending unit?
Or do I have the entire thing installed incorrectly? Well obviously I do.
I hope someone can make sense of this. Someone must have a heater hooked up. I could sincerly use some guidance here guys.
Mind you it hasn't been cold at all up here and I walk to work everyday. I just need to get this figured out since it's all mounted. And I'm worried that all this rerouting of coolant is harming my engine cooling system.
    Thanks again.

Dunno, but where the arrow is pointing is where my factory temp sender is located.

That's what I thought. And I was just looking at the Jeep manual and it says, "The heater inlet hose is connected to a port on the right cylinder head. The outlet hose is connected to the heater adapter tube on the water pump."
My outlet I think is correct, so where is this port on the right bank cylinder head? If I'm standing in front of the jeep should the right bank cylinder head be on my right (driver's side?) Stupid question sorry.

Pics of my factory hook up, its a little hard to see but the second pic is of the inlet hose, its the hose in the back with the elbow. The return runs to the water pump.

There are 2 factory set ups. I will describe both. The water pump hose you have hooked up is correct, the 2nd hose should go to same place that (pilotmike) showed in his bottom picture, back of intake manifold. The 70 and 71 model engines, after AMC takeover are different. They have the 2nd hose hooked where your temp gauge is and the temp gauge goes where (pilotmikes) heater hose is, the back of the intake manifold.

The 71 set up sounds like it would work better and I will be changing mine to that configuration. I don't like the way my temp gauge fluxuates up and down as the thermost opens and closes. Mike

Thanks so far. Let me get this straight. So I should move my temp sending unit to B and my inlet for my heater to A, according to my latest picture. I wonder if my temp sending unit will fit in location B? If not then I guess I'll just keep it at A and route the inlet for my heater into B. My temp doesn't fluctuate too much so I think I'll just move the inlet to B. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to either spots for the heater or the guage?
Thanks for all your help. I'll try and get this done by Superbowl XL on Sunday.

I would think you will get the warmest "water" from the location by the thermostat as the water has traveled thru the whole engine by the time it gets there. I have an after market water temp gage and with the sending unit mounted next to the Tstat I get fluxuations from 180* with it open up to 210* with it closed. I would pick up the hot water by the Tstat if I had the system open anyway if I was you, but it will work either way. I will be changing mine come spring time for the above mentioned reason, I'm kinda embarased I didn't think of it before, oh well I guess I can blame it on old timers :) Mike
