I was connecting the heater hoses today on an F-134 and I found that the rear inlet was pointing straight down. It was a Harrison heater core from a CJ.

Well that wasn't going to work, so I considered flipping the core over -- but that wasn't going to work 'cause the back inlet would be pointing aft and the hose wouldn't make the bend.

So I thought about it for a whle and tried an old trick I learned years ago. When facing a seemingly insoluble problem, redefine the problem...

So instead of a heater core I looked at the problem as a copper plumbing problem and the answer was obvious.

So I sweat soldered a half inch copper elbow on the rear port and a 1 3/4 inch long piece of copper pipe as a hose mounting stub in the other end of the elbow. Even canted the elbow so that it pointed a little towards the rear of the engine to make the hose connection more direct.

Tested and no leaks - will install tomorrow.

Yep, have done that with several. I fill them with water just above the top of the tank so when soldering, you don't melt something you don't want to melt.
