    There are numerous reasons:
    1. Redneck cruise control (on the trail and pavement)

    easy rider

    2. On rough terrain it keeps the foot from bouncing on the gas pedal. You can maintian a Constant RPM over any terrain. I use mine all of the time off road
    3. Winching
    4. Running a compressor
    5. No need for a "third" foot when starting on a hill (Stick shifters know what I mean)
    6. One more lever adds to the "coolness" factor.
    7. Another trinket to tinker/fiddle with
    8. You get to deal with numerous jeep'n noob questions on the trail "What is that thing on your shifter?"

    yup redneck cruise control.

my 56 has something in the location the factory lit. says would be the hand throttle. it spins in the dash, but i cant pull it out. looks like a thimble....

need to crawl in there and see what it is. maybe i already ahve a hand throttle..... (still gonna upgrade to a better one.)

My choke is located int he #1 location, and the thimble type thing is #2. i wsnt really able to crawl under the dash easily enough last night to see what the back of this thimble looked like. i suspect its a type of dimmer control???

Im still mounting an aviation style hand throttle in the dash.

Yup, you don't really know your Jeep until you've crawled under the dash IMHO..
