I cranked my '73 cj (3 on floor) today and seemingly overnight it is next to impossible to put into gear (grinds loudly when attempting). Especially when putting in first from an idle stopped position. Once moving its not so bad but still is an issue.

    Any thoughts?

Original should be a mechanical rod pushing through the floor to a z bar under the floor. Has yours been converted to hydraulic ?

Adjust the clutch and try it.

Your were right! It WAS the linkage. The nut that holds the rod to the trasm had broken off in the Transm. They merely had to bore it out and re-attach. Thanx.
