    Baby steps to report.....

I haven't done much this summer (on the JEEP). There was the Ohio Amish Country touring, Washington DC trip, picking my son up at Quantico, VA - Marine Corps OCS, helping shear 700 head of Angora Goats, and other summer activities. Plus is is too &#~^% Hot.

    Started removing the bed..

I did get the steering wheel off !!!! YEEEEHAW
It has been sitting over in the corner and I would rather beat on that thing than do body work.

The were typical cracks, with a minor amount of damage inflicted by me on removal. I used the JB weld repair method I found here. I think it will turn out pretty good.

I still need to sand and paint. It looks like Appliance paint will be the choice based on searches here.

Oh and then there were the goats....
HEY, THIS MUST BE OUR 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY !!
It was last year at this bi-annual shearing event that Garrett "found the JEEP".

I fixed the A/C in the shop so I could work out there.

Then, Did a little color test.

First the glovebox door, then the dash,

I did 2 (& 3 coats as needed) wet sanding between.
I think I'll go with it.
Fender is only one coat so far.

It is just rattle can. But I think it came out pretty good.
It may get chaulky, flake, who knows....It is better than before, right?
I don't have the spray equipment, don't want to invest in it.
My air compressor is on it's last leg. I don't think it would do the job.
Plus, I'm cheap and can fix it WHEN the repairs/mods or Texas Brush pinstriping occurs.

    Onward thru the fog...

I think the fender looks like it has a little red in it.

    Looks very smooth.

    Thanks for looking....

I have both fenders, the grill, windshield, dash and the hood painted. Took a break from body work
    and bent/installed the brake lines.

I need to get calipers, MC, and shoes on here in the next week or two. Then I get to buy tires. jeep toss WoooHooo

    On the near horizon...
    -Ross rebuild kit.
-finish drilling spot wells and install new bed panel, and under fuel tank panel.
    paint the tub (yuk)

Then I can out it all together and get it going while I do the odds and ends.

OK here is a little better update while I wait for brake parts to get here on Monday 9th.

I got the bed and floor panel (under the gas tank) removed.
I cut it behind the tool box until I get it the tub flipped over to remove that part without tearing up the toolbox.
You can see that in the left of this pic.

I kept breaking those little spot weld bits, or wasn't able to get the drill in the tight spots, so most spot welds were ground with a dremel cut-off wheel and they broke loose with a chisel.

I also cut out some of the "cancer" and prepped it for repair
    [IMG]

Then the coolest part of all....
I got inspired by the Toilet bowl cleaner post and just had to try it out.
I stuck the tailgate chain in for 10 mins and WaaaaLaaaa.

Thanks to the nice weather, and the inspiration I'm tinkering on the old jeep again.

X2! Is this going to be a true, stock restoration?

No not true stock but pretty close. Not shooting for a show piece, just a real '59.

I'm just fix'n what needs fix'n, (with original) vs. mods.
Although, I think an alternator is in order.

It was 99.9% stock when I got it save for the "farmer fixes".

I hope it is cheaper that way, see'n how mods can get out of hand
one thing leads to another, and $o on and $o on.

Just want my son to be able to drive it a couple years then it can go back "home" to the farm.

Sounds like a good plan. :) While mods are cool and can make these Jeeps more safe/comfortable/capable, they were driven like most any other car in their day (to a point) and I don't see any reason why they can't be today. It's cool to see somebody driving an old Jeep that's been upgraded, but it's even more cool (to me, just MHO) to see somebody driving a nice, original, bone stock rig that's pretty much the way it was when it had 100 miles on the odometer. Good luck with the rest of the project, and with your son driving it.

Bakes in, on & done. Garret got to experience "knuckle bust'n" while
putting on the brake retaining springs. "Just press that flap of skin back over to keep the grime out" :)

New M/C, wheel cylinders, flex hoses, pads, repaired & bent some of the brake lines.
Bench bled M/C, and bled the whole system. Fixed a few leaks.

Just have to adjust the pads and we are good to go.....er STOP.

I'm sure he'll wear it as a badge of honor when he explains to his friends how it happened.
And all they can show are calluses on their thumbs from video gaming all weekend.

Old valve worked great for bench bleeding M/C
    [IMG]

E-Brake pads installed, new cable at the ready.
Gooped up the splines real good with RTV Black, and crossing fingers it don't leak.

    QUESTION on the EBrake cable:
What kind of clip do I need where the cable goes through this "claw"?
I guess I missed it when I ordered parts, and haven't been able to track it down....YET.

We played with some shifter knob ideas as a little distraction:

Oh yea, he cleaned up the headlights, trim, and parking lights to re-assemble into the grille.
    Ross Steering kit is next......

    Very cool build!

In regards to your e-brake cable and the claw on your crossmember, that bracket is not actually for the e-brake. It is for a cable, i believe it's called a "stay cable", that connects the crossmember to bellhousing. I can't correctly remember the purpose of it, but hopefully someone else can tell us what it is for.

    A little more body work.

I think I'm gonna need to reuse the channels under the bed. So I drilled more sport welds. It doesn't look like the bed panel comes with them.
At least in little my web browsing I've done so far.

Now the Wheelhouse notch. You see my Uncles that drove this thing were about my size (6-3 215). It seems that they
self customized the wheelhouse over the years. See how it is dented/dished. I think that was from the bouncing and beating
of the seat frame on the wheelhouse. But it could have been from a BFM, too. Knowing the resourcefulness of Uncle Clarence. :)

Here is what I did anyway....I picked up the correct angle from the passenger side.

Built it out of cardboard first...mainly to have patterns
    [IMG]

    Then the sheet metal
    [IMG]

Had to stop to repair the FICM (Fuel Injector Control Module) on my F350

Here is a stockpile of finished body parts that are waiting on the tub.
    Pardon the dust. :)

I think the color is called Hunter Green.
(Pics never do justice to color)
