Thanks, that sounds easier! Can you post a pic of the seats, please? And under what description should I do a search to see if anyone is offering any of those for sale?
    Again, thanks!

If u put a tank under the rear, your seat choice would
    Be unlimited!
I went to a local scrap yard, car crusher, and out of a dodge Dakota got seats, seat belts,
    And tracks for 40$
I Also moded the fenderwell to gain 2-3 in more room.

I have cj7 seats from an 80s model. They have sliders and a fairly thin seat cushion. In this picture the tank is sitting about 2" higher than it's should so there would be about another 2" from the steering wheel. Im not a pro by all means just posting this pic for a reference to how these seats look. They could be an option for you. Cheers:beer:

Maaaan, you read my mind! I was about to ask you which seats could I rig in there! Did you redo the floors flat then? I was thinking about that, that's why I was asking originally about relocating the tank while keeping the stock fill up place. Thanks! Do you have power steering? That wheel looks sweet!

Thanks, that helps a lot! Why is the tank 2" higher?

Buba reframed the floor with 1 1/4" tube and laid a 1/4" thick sheet of steel over it. Which the steel plate didn't even sit on the tube framing. So the floor was sitting about 2" higher than it should be.

You can buy universal sliders in various lengths that will adapt to any seat frame...........although in most cases you will probably need to build your own mounts or modify existing factory mounts as seat height ( thickness ) , depth and angle in relationship to the steering wheel , and fuel tank below vary greatly............. tons of subcompact & sport car type suspension low back seats in wrecking yards that are cheap.......take some measurements and a tape measure with you............I have seen guys put just about every brand available in there Jeeps but not one type seems to fit all.........

Early jeep seats need to be fairly thin up front to get clearance for legs , knees & the fuel tank below........the seating position also needs to be somewhat flat for floor mounted pedals.....with swing pedals a little tilt is OK but too much and your knees are hitting again.............AMC corrected most of that seating nonsense in the mid seventies by raising the steering wheel , moving the tank, hanging the pedals and lengthening the foot pockets in the floors.

Any reason to use a plastic over steel fuel tank? A skid plate is required for both, so I was wondering. Also, any particular preference in right or left fuel line? Thanks!

    Yes, rust.

What year is your Jeep that it has no sliders for the drivers seat? My 71 has factory rear tank, no underseat at all and I like it better as that is extra storage in the case of an ammo box. The factory rear tank is also 15 gallons as opposed to the under seat 10-11 gallon.

You can use one of the factory tanks that goes in the rear of a CJ-5 or CJ-7, or there are plastic replacements avaliable from MTS. MTS COMPANY, L.C. - Jeep CJ/YJ Gas Tanks There are some differences from year to year, but they won't much matter if you are installing in a jeep that never had a rear tank.

This page is gone from the web, but available from the Wayback machine. Boyink! | Supersize Dutch Blog | Gas Tank - Installing Rear Here Mike Boyink presents his rear tank conversion.

'70-75 tanks have brackets that bolt to the frame, and a separate skid plate. You don't have to have a skid plate with those tanks. You must use a skid plate with a plastic tank. The '76-up tanks are supported by the skid plate from below, and this works fine with plastic. Plastic lasts longer, and does not corrode.

Left or right is determined by the filler location on the tank. Tank won't fit if you try to switch the filler location - it's not symmetric that way.

Here are a couple of pics of how a factory 71 rear tank looks when fitted in the frame. This is all stock and original to my jeep.

I don't have any pictures of my seat at this time, but they are stock Tuxedo Park seats.

Thinking about this, if you buy new parts, go with the later tank (the 0051 type on the MTS page), not the '70-75 style. Parts availability is much better for these tanks than the earlier ones.
