Fluid from hydraulic clutch leaking out bottom of bellhousing.?

    I'm losing fluid from the hydraulic clutch and it seems to be coming out the bottom of the bellhousing. I blead the system and the fluid loss has continued. Help! (it is an 84 cj7) Thanks , Jeff

    Sounds like you'll be pulling the tranny.

    I think 4 cyls were the only ones that used hydraulic clutch components in that time frame.
    not worth rebuilding either component in my opinion; just replace the bad one with a new one (seems to me Jeep had a special brake fluid to use also, as they had big troubles with these cylinders leaking)
    Follow the hose from your clutch m/cyl down to the slave; I think they are externally mounted (no need to pull trans)
    maybe you'll get lucky!

    Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like it could get ugly!!!! I'll check into it tonight after work and see whats up.

    I had trouble with my MC leaking after only a year in service. I read here about using Dot 5 fluid. It's silicone based and won't absorb water. I started using that and haven't had any problems yet. The only problem with it is that it won't mix with any of the other Dot fluids, so you have to clean all the old fluid out of everything. Apparently if you mix Dot 3 or 4 with Dot 5 it turns to gel and screws up the entire system. Also, Jeep used an internal slave cylinder on some Jeeps with the 4 liter six cyl. Really bad idea.

    Good News! Everything is external..... it won't be the nightmare I thought it would be........ Hey Posimoto... I see that you live in Kings Beach .... I lived in Tahoe City for many years and hope to move back some day.

    This is the heart of 4 wheelin' in Northern Cal. Hope you get a chance to move back. How long ago did you live here?
