Thanks for all the compliments. The pictures do it some justice, if you get up close and personal you can start picking out some mistakes, especially in the paint. The paint came out good as far as being flat and no orange peel but since I painted it in pieces, there are some areas that didn't get as much paint as others or got scratched during the reassembly. So the paint is not perfect but, hey, it's a Jeep, right? They aren't supposed to be perfect.

Originally, I was just planning to build a driver. I wanted something that I could drive around and enjoy. But once I started, I didn't quite know how to stop and went much further than I intended. Now I have to be careful about leaving it out in the rain or door dings in the parking lots. I sort of have a cross between a driver and a trailer queen, not really being ideal for either scenario. It's not perfect enough for show room but it's not worn enough for driver. So I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with it.

Are those new tailgate chains, or did you clean up the old ones?

It now has a shiny new state inspection sticker on the windshield and 100% legal for road driving. Yay.

Congratulations Chris how often does WV require you have it inspected? In Delaware as long as I keep mine tagged exempt (Historic) only need to have it done one time.

I'm actually a little confused on that point. WV has two types of antique tags, one type ("antique" plate) is really inexpensive and it does not require an inspection but you can only drive it on weekends and holidays. The other type ("classic" plate) is what I got, you pay annually like with any other car but I was told it had to be inspected. But I think the lady at the DMV may have been wrong. It doesn't matter, I went ahead and got it inspected, it's only $12 and it gives me a little piece of mind knowing that it was checked over for safety.

Ok we have no limits on mileage and have to have it inspected to obtain tag which is good but as long as I keep it registered to me no further inspections are required just proof of antique insurance.

Need opinions. Would I ruin the authentic look of the JEEP if I put lock out hubs on it? I don't ever intend on needing 4 wheel drive, this thing will only see dry pavement so I don't see the need to put all the wear and tear on front axles and diff. But I didn't put lock outs on it because I wanted to keep the stock appearance. Opinions?

I don't think it matters, unless you are after a factory correct restoration. Lots of jeeps have lock out hubs. More than likely you will be the only one who will notice.

It's been a while since I've posted on my progress. After 150 miles, the engine started knocking. I tore it back down, the bearings were shot and the crank was grooved from definite oil starvation. I suspect the oil pump relief valve stuck on the repop oil pump. I scored an NOS pump on eBay and finally have everything back together again.

Tore it down, took the block back to the machine shop for cleaning and inspection. Got the motor back in last night and will get everything buttoned up and running again next week.

I hope to make it up to Butler with it this year.

She runs! Oil pressure looks good, if not a bit too high (between 40-45 at idle) but all looks fine. I should get it all buttoned back up today and take it for Maiden Voyage 2.0 this week.

I hope to see it at Butler. Taking the -6 there even if we have to trailer it. Hoping it'll be done by then.

Maiden Voyage 2.0 went well. I have a new transmission/transfer case leak that wasn't there before but everything else looks good.

Thanks. I got the paint from a local parts store that supplies paint to area body shops. We found the Willys President Red in their books and they were able to mix it in a clear coat/base coat formula. They also have the ability to custom mix rattle can colors so I got one of those for doing small parts.

Thanks, Jason. Actually, I think pictures do it a world of justice. Get it out in the sun and start looking it over and you'll see all the flaws. I think 4xFool's '60 is a higher quality build and it served as my inspiration.
