Failed Sparton Turn Signal Switch

My stock turn signal switch has failed. It does not make the ticking noise, doesn't light up the indicator light, and doesn't actuate the signals.

The biggest problem is that my passenger brake light has also quit. Interestingly, if I have the brake pedal pressed and move the turn signal switch to turn on the left blinker my left brake light goes out.

I have the stock Sparton switch setup and I took it apart. It appears that the actual electrical switch device inside is all that would need to be replaced but I don't know where to get one.

Any ideas?

Some Googling around found this wiring diagram. Looks like I should have a flasher module somewhere, just not sure where to look.

 

Is it a standard replaceable part that I can get at Auto Zone / Advanced?

 

That cancelling your stop light when you flip the turn sig lever is normal operation.

 

So I replaced the flasher unit with a brand new one and nothing changed. What else is involved in the operation that could be doing this?

 

maybe lost the + connection from flasher inside the signal switch?

 

I took the whole switch assembly apart and put it back together. Never again. Those stupid little springs and whatnot are nearly impossible to get put back together properly.

It all seems to be mechanically functional from that side, I'm guessing I need to trace out wires and see if I have a short under the body or something.

 

I had issues with mine awhile back had ground issues on flasher base.

 

My left brake was not working, bulb was good. I opened the Sparton up and started testing, and the left brake light worked inside the switch. I looked under the hood, where the connectors are and still no power to the left brake light. I finally got on my back, it hurts to do that in a Jeep, and found that there is a set of plugs between the Sparton switch and the firewall connectors under the dash, I unplugged them and put them back together, and that fixed it, Eureka. It is a three wire connector, a plastic triangle, that has lost connection. I hope this helps, good luck.

 

Excellent information guys. I think I'll start by jumpering the wires around the switch to see if I can at least get both brake lights working again. I like the turn signals but right now I only have a driver side brake light, and they are so dim as-is that I don't want to get on the road without both working.

 

The tail lights are pretty new and everything was working perfectly until the turn signals quit, now I only have a driver's side brake light.

Is there only one power lead that flows through the flasher module which powers the brake lights and signal switch?

 

The running lights come on with the headlights in both tail lights, brake light only on the driver's side, which switches off when toggling the turn signal switch breaking the circuit.

Logically it sounds like I've lost power to the flasher module, but the passenger side brake light not working is odd. Maybe the second bulb filament went out at exactly the same time. I'll check tonight when I get home.
