    I am finally getting going on wiring up my 74 CJ5 with an EZ Wiring kit. I am a little confused with the ignition switch setup due to the wires from the EZ harness and the alternator wiring. I have a Delco alternator and wanted to check to see if this setup is correct:

    1) From the EZ harness the Sol PWR goes through a fusible link to the solenoid power
    2) For the alternator there are 3 connections. The main terminal goes to the Alt PWR and it is linked to the plug on the side of the alternator. The main question is there is a brown resistance wire not connected that also goes to the plug on the side of the alt. I am assuming this should go to the ALT exciter wire on the EZ harness? In this case I should probably use the resistance wire and cut back the alt exciter wire?
    3)For the ignition switch the plugs are for a GM column. Since the cj5 needs a dash mounted ign switch are there any aftermarket switches you would recommend? I would like to go with a simple on/off keyed switch to a push button. If I go this route would this wiring be correct:
    Keyed On/Off Switch:
    IGN SW PWR (12V)
    IGN SW STRT (to starter relay)
    Push Button:
    IGN SW Coil and IGN SW ignition on one terminal (coil+ and not sure what the other wire goes to?)
    IGN SW Power on other terminal (12V)

    Any help would be appreciated. I tried to attach an image below or follow the link.

    This is how I did mine using the EZ Wire and a Delco alternator...your mileage may vary...

    awesome diagram just what i needed....for the alt exciter to the harness did you use the original resistance wire or the standard 12 gauge white wire from the harness? i heard you need a diode or resistance wire to allow for the jeep to turn off properly

    I used a diode. I don't remember if it came with the EZ Wiring kit or the MSD Ignition kit, but it came with one of them. I remember seeing a link on another forum on the type of diode to use...should be readily available at a Radio Shack etc. I'm sure a quick google search on diode and Jeep will bring something up.

    Yep I found pn 276-1144 from radioshack somebody recommended. Shows its rated at 3A so might try to find a larger one when I am there.

    Next step I would like to replace all the switches with rocker switches. I see everyone suggesting to run relays but what would the issue be if I am running through the fuse panel and get rocker switches rated higher than the fuse? I would simply stick with all the switches but bought the jeep in parts and they did not have the switches and after looking at replacing them all it could cost a pretty penny unless I can find them used. So if I go with rockers can I just run the correct rated rockers? I am not going to be putting in the heating unit so I don't have to worry about that but I would need to find the right type for different settings for high beam/low beam and the wipers.

    I kept my headlight switch (well, a new one, but a Jeep one), and the window wipers. Everything else is on rockers. As long as there is a fuse to the switch and the switch is rated pretty high you should be okay. The recommendation to run the lights through relays is a good one, it helps keep a good "clean" voltage to the headlights. You can see in the diagram how I did mine. The headlight power leads from the EZ wire kit ran to the relay to switch it.

    I bought my rockers from www.otrattw.com they have a wide selection of Carling switches.

    huge help! got some switches on the way and done with the ignition/front/rear wiring. now the dash/gauges/and turn signal...running into a few problems hooking up the spartan signal to the ez harness though and trying to figure out what switches to put in. so far one for lights, low/high beam, fog lights, wipers, and 2 accessory. starting to realize other things like hazards but probably wont bother.

    thanks again for the advice

    Sparton SCS-3R (if that's what you have)

    orange = RR turn
    Blue = LR turn
    Black = RF turn
    Yellow = LF turn
    Brown = Brake stop switch (hot when brake on)

    Flasher circuit

    power to X on flasher can

    White = to L on flasher can

    Small black = to P on flasher can (pilot) "indicator light on top of Sparton"

    Flasher 550 3 pin or equivalent

    Thanks! For the horn is that just the extra black wire that will need to ground for the horn switch? I cut my column down and in turn lost that insulator part for that wire so wondering if there is a good way to run a new horn wire through the column?

    That black wire going up the column is the horn wire which the horn button simply grounds when pushed. I don't know what insulator you are referring to as I am not familiar with the column arrangement. Originally the horn wire was black w/tracer and appeared about 7th from one end of the plug or about 11th from the other end.
