Hello all! Well it’s a case of I might as well since I’m there deals. Working on the rear end painting bearings whole 9 yards and thought I might as well replace the exhaust mount bushings which then led me too well I just paint the exhaust. So I’m wiring brushing it off and now wondering what next. I have exhaust paint but I also have rust transformer paint. Wondering if I should undercoat it with the rust Transformer then top it with the exhaust heat paint. But now I’m thinking that the rust transformer paint might not stand up to the heat. Should I just wire brush, degrease it and go straight to the exhaust paint? Advice? Experience?

If you are using a rust treatment like ospho then you are fine as long as you rinse thoroughly. If you are using a “rust primer” then it must be high temp rated. Material Safety Data Sheets are available on line and will tell you what you need to know.

Paint won't last on the exhaust, period. I would not bother.

I found that 200 degrees is the highest for my rust transformer. So I just went with the 2000 degree header paint. I was thinking of wrapping them but felt that will just cause more rust potential by trapping water etc.

I’ll post how it goes and if it burns off pretty quickly I will post that as well.

Build it out of stainless, or aluminized pipe...

I mean, you can try BBQ paint on it, but I wouldn't personally bet on it lasting long.
