How many of you run one? Before I go and paint my oilpan I am trying to decided if I should just go ahead and weld a plate on? or should I make some kind of a crossmember type?

Not on the 5 but I have one on the TJ.

It's got some dings in it as does the oil pan from before I put it on.

If you drive like I do or used to you might consider it. ;)

Um, what's the downside of having one? I like cheap insurance.

Back bolts onto the transmission/transfer skidplate (support) and the front bolts onto the control arm bracket on the pass. side. I modified it to work with my lift so the driver's side now goes up to the bottom of the engine mount not over the DS to the other control arm bracket.

I use them on my rigs. They are welded to the pan.

I would like to put an original one on our 70 CJ5 V6. Anyone know where I can find an original oil pan with a skid plate for a 225 V6?

All the 232 and 258 Jeeps have them AFAIK. My truck has one, which is strange since the fuel tank doesn't have a skid plate, and it hangs down about 6" further than the bottom of the engine, and is way more exposed.

For some reason and I don't know why GM does not put skid plates on the oilpans of Impallas. Not a big deal, I think I will figure something out once I get the drivetrain in and I see what I am dealing with. I need to put one on so nobody can see how bad of a paintjob is on the oilpan, of course ran out of paint halfway through the dang thing and it was the last part to be painted in that color.

Renegades were the only ones to come from factory that way.
    might be diffiicult to find
doubt there are any NOS floating around out there

F4s had a nice full length skid plate on the pan

    Jim,

Are you sure only the Renegades came from the factory with the oil pan skid plate? Seems I've read here where it was optional on all V-6 CJs (I could be wrong though). I've got one on my '70 225 V-6 and have wondered at times if maybe mine was a Renegade as it has most of the Renegade features.

    Renegades from the factory
anybody could have ordered one through dealer parts dept and installed it
    though
Am I 100% positive ? no, but that's what the Jeep books say
(and we all know they don't make mistakes...ha ha)

Beeser has one on his Jeep! I'd bet Steve would post a pic if someone asked nicely.

    Interesting........ very interesting...........

Is Beeser's a Renegade? I wonder if anyone here has a factory style oil pan skidplate on a non-Renegade V-6?

I'll try and remember to post pics of mine tonight. I posted them before but ran out of space and deleted them in order to post other pictures.

    Thanks for the info Jim!

if you saw how thin the metal is on this thing you would swear it needed one for rocks flying up from the road. It already is dented so I think I am going to go with something beefy, maybe I will play with some cuttingboard material.
