I know there is a long thread on this, however I just wanted to share my experience.

The general consensus of the discussion is the color is "Hamptstead Green" OEM Color BG11M. So I painted my engine that color. It is a metallic color and looks great, Quite happy with the results

I also purchased a donor engine a last winter and needed a valve cover from that engine for the one I am going to use. The donor came from a '67, I haven't verified the engine number yet. However it had lots of original paint.

Below is a pic of the donor valve cover, original paint, on top of the newly painted engine. Very close indeed, the original just doesn't seem to be metallic. I like the metallic look on this engine.

    Very happy with the results.

JWM's previous post shows the metallic color used on the AMC engines in the early '70s, and the valve cover is the correct Dauntless color. I like the AMC color a lot, but it isn't correct on the Dauntless.
I recently purchased a '61 Buick 198 V6 (fits 215 V8) bellhousing that still has most of its original paint, and it may be slightly darker than the Dauntless color, but it is VERY close. The early '60s Buick color may be the same as used by Kaiser on the Dauntless in the mid to late 60's.
