electric fuel pump install

    Ok, I just got a new fuel pump for my new Weber. Its a Carter rotary, model 4070. Where should I install it?

    My options as I see them are:
    #1. Back near the filler neck. Its close to the tank and fairly well protected. However, there isn't a great surface to mount it to. Plus, I'd probably have to drop the tank to install longer fuel lines to reach back to the pump. I really don't want to do that.

    #2. Between the frame rails. Not really an option. It will stick out too far and hang too low. Not protected at all.

    #3. On the engine block. This option is my favorite. The pump will be accessible yet protected. Plumbing will be simple. And, the holes on the mounting bracket match exactly with the mechanical fuel pump mounting bolts :rofl:. Now, I know that these electric pumps are "pushers", not "pullers". However, it will sit low enough, that it will not be pulling far against gravity, where I'm assuming it matters the most. It will be pushing fuel upward most of the distance. The mfg recomments not installing the pump more than 24" above the top of the tank, so that is not a problem here. It has rubber mounts to help with vibration. I suppose my real question is will the heat and engine vibration be too much for the pump?

    Does anybody have any other mounting suggestions?

    Don't know about the carter pumps, but I used a ford truck pump when I did my fuel injection swap. Its an autozone part #e2000 and I believe its the same style of inline pump. I wound up mounting it in the back on the crossmember right in front of the gas tank. No problems with it ever. I had concerns about it too sucking or not sucking R) , but it was fine.

    If it is a "pusher", the 7 or so feet of hose sucking form the tank might cause some problems.

    Also, why are you using an electric pump? What is its output pressure? While I commend any attempt for "More Power!", it seems a bit overkill, IMHO.

    Mechanical fuel pump was replaced before the Jeep was mine. I needed a pump with low pressure and good volume. I've got a cheapie Facet pump on there right now, but the pressure is too high and the volume is about 1/3 of what the Weber needs.

    The Weber was for the "More Power!" Actually, it was more for smoother running and better economy than the worn out YF.

    Mine is mounted on the drivers side inner fender.

    I mounted Dutch's on the body, under the driver's seat area where the floor level changes from front to back.

    I had to run one to solve vaporlocking at high altitudes.

    You can also get pressure regulators to drop the pressure down before hitting the carb - NAPA sells a Puralator brand.

    Andrew mount it closer to the tank.
    Also you will need a pressure reg and maybe a return line.
    Give me a yell and we can hook up and I'll show you one thats setup already.
    Are you headed over to David's this Saturday?
    If so Tim may be there with his 6 he has the setup I was talking about.

    I mounted mine in the passenger frame rail above the tranny cross-member. Its below the fuel cell, well protected and seems to be working great.

    Jerry, I got this particular pump because it was recommended for the Webers, and in particular that it didn't need a regulator because the pressure was low enough.

    I'm planning on being at David's on Sat. I'll call you later.
