I picked up an early CJ5. No title, no history. MN and SN on VIN point to a 66 CJ5a. Hood is definitely M38a1. Grill has large turn signals. Neither are stock 66. Question is front fenders. The roll on the front is much shorter. Barely rolls. They are not bobbed as they have the edge trim bump out and roll under the same as a regular fender. Any ideas what the fenders and grill are from? upload_2019-7-27_21-22-1.jpeg upload_2019-7-27_21-21-5.jpeg

To me it looks like a bob followed with a bead roller. the passenger side view looks like the heavy factory stamp starts to curve down then they used a bead roller to continue it over and make it a finished edge, the tooling and process make the radius different. It's good to see the professionalism.

Is that an indentation for a side marker light on the left rear? That would make it newer than '66.

Can you post a picture of the dash? That might help for identification.

I have seen a number of jeeps that have had fenders that look like these. I don't know if it was a popular modification or if there was a source that sold the modified fenders.

Tomtom made some bobbed fenders sort of like that trying to maintain some of the original lines - guessing they are homemade but done with some attention to detail. As said above, the large front marker lights with clear lenses suggest and rear marker light on driver side suggest later than 66...wonder what rear axle it has...

Is it something about the picture or is the driver's side fender different than the passenger side? Looks flat to me, no lip on the horizontal part.

I see what you mean by looking at just one picture...But if you look at both pictures you can see they look the same

Front fenders are modified by a Bubba, with the right side being mostly original metal, just bobbed and reshaped. The grill looks to be '69-up, but would need the see the portion under the hood.
Why do you think that is an M38a1 hood? Also, if you post up the serial number, we could likely at least tell you what you have. The CJ5a models have a separate range of serial numbers apart from CJ5's.
That left rear marker light recess makes this look like a '70 or '71. Is the rear axle flanged?

I don't know if bubba did these ender mods or not but as I said earlier, I have seen several. Here is a Jeep that was for sale locally a couple of years ago as an example. The work was done very well.

    Bubba can surprise at times.

Also the hood looks just like my ‘57.

Only difference on the A1 hood is the shovel mount on the inside. Other than that, identical to the CJ hood. But that mount is a nice mod if you want to have a shovel on board!

I know that, and have both CJ and A-1 versions. I was curious if the OP thought his was an A-1 because it had a fording cover ( missing).

Here's a couple shots of the fenders. They do need some love. Whoever did them originally did a good job. Next question is the motor. It's a V8. No idea what manufacturer. I'm assuming GM. Bellhousing bolts directly to T86. To me the motor is scrap.

I've got an odd fire 231 that needs a rebuild that I'd put in it. Original V6 mounts are still in place. They never completed the install. I think the motor may be seized. No idea how long its been sitting. Last licensed in 1985. I haven't had time to put a wrench to it. Busy getting things done around the house. Both knees getting replaced Aug 14
