    Hey folks,
I hope someone can help. I have spent the week looking for the bearing retainer ring to do on the axle shafts of my 67 d44. I ordered a bearing set from rock auto, which came with bearing each and seal. Now I will readily admit, this is the first time I've been in a d44, particularly one this old. I see the set up is different than any rear end I've been in. With the outer retainer ring that hold the whole heap together. I would like to ha e had a look at the setup before it came apart, but it did just that.

I took the wheel off, knowing I needed to do axle bearings when I bought the Jeep, when I did the whole right axle slid out. So I am sorta guessing my way through here. I've looked up exploded diagrams, but can't find D any for this ancient sucker... Does anyone have one, or a parts number for the retainer ring?

Sorry for the novel, just trying to get enough info out.

I'm not exactly sure what FlatsBilly is looking for. Our Jeeps generally use the brake backing plate and thin grease retainer to hold the bearing race in the axle tube. The tapered bearing is pressed on the axle shaft. On some vehicles (other than our Jeeps) there is a retaining collar pressed on behind the pressed bearing.

Late to the party but the diagram posted just shows the outer seal; the retainer on the seal does not hold the bearing/race.
There is a round bearing retainer plate that fills that need.
And it's usually found behind the brake backing plate, along with the shims to set that axle bearing end play.

starting from right lower bottom of photo, the order is:
    Grease cup/protector
    Gasket
    Outer seal w/retainer
    Gasket
    Brake backing plate
    Axle bearing plate
    Axle bearing shims

I don't have permission to view... Lol. Thank you for the info jpflat2a. Hopefully I've rounded up the parts now. Just have to hunt up some missing brake hardware, and I can start putting it back together.
