I removed my D18 parking brake after installing Metcalf's rear disc parking brake kit and I went to put a front yoke in place of the flange, and it didn't tighten up properly. The dust shield was hitting the housing. I thought I read somewhere that this could be done? Am I using the wrong yoke?

You can just heat the dust shield up and remove it/replace it. I just use a heat gun. As near as I can determine, those yokes are also the same as the 10 spline D25/27/44 yokes. The only difference is the dust shields. Spline major, seal diameter, and length dimensions all match.

So could I put the dust shield from the flange on the other yoke? Id like to keep the felt in there.

Yep. Should be able to swap shields on all those with the same seal diameter. I do those just like a ring gear/flywheel. Heat whatever shield you want to install and they pretty much drop right on. Just make sure it's seated all the way in.

Another thought: any reason you can't just chuck your yoke up in your lathe and trim to fit? The reason I got into this problem is I wanted the stronger more recent yoke style on the back of my D18 which also eliminated the companion flange. Since Spicer no longer makes the 10 spline U-bolt style yoke, I ended up with the 1310 strap version.

I swapped around the dust shields on the yokes and it worked perfectly!
