    Hey All,

I had a vibration on my CJ5 and noticed the output companion flange was loose, so I ordered a rebuild kit and pulled the transmission down.
Unfortunately I found out that the mounting tab for the transfer case torque mount is busted. The rebuilder who put my Jeep together had the mount clamped on with a piece of scrap metal...

Any thoughts? I could machine a mating piece and attempt to weld it, but I know the cast iron will probably crack at the HAZ eventually.
    Does anyone make replacement castings?

I think id just drill another hole out enough to get a nut on and call it good. Even if it needs to be a smaller bolt hole or slimmed down nut or you have to grind the case a bit to fit it

    Jeep2003,

That could work, it does look like there is enough room to get closer to the case. At this point, I can't see that hurting...

Is that torque mount on the front bearing cap? I would think there are quite a few of those floating around just waiting to be used in a case like this. Also, just to ask, does your torque mount mount to the cross-member with the round pad, or to the inside of the frame rails with angle bracket thingy?

I think an attempt to drill a new hole would lead to the rubber mount being forever strained since things wouldn't line up. Probably best to get a new casting. I'm sure someone has a spare lying around. Although this would require some teardown of the transfer case obviously.

    FinoCJ,
My transfer case uses a round pad with a single bolt directly through the crossmember.

    Kenb,
I could modify the cross-member to realign the mount, but of course getting a replacement casting would be my first priority. I was already planning a full tear-down and rebuild.
I am pretty sure Herm the Overdrive guy will have them in stock, I bought my rebuild kit with the hardened shaft through him.

    Thanks!

find the price for a replacement then go get a quote at a machine shop and go with the lesser.

I had the same problem. I used a TIG welding rod called Hastelloy W Nickel Alloy. It has worked great for me an has held up nicely. I built a special cross member, so my new mount is not designed for the stock one.

I would machine a piece to match up to the broken half and buy some Hastelloy W and call it good.
