I did search.

The 225 rocker arms have a left and a right part number, the difference being the notch that is supposed to be against the pedestal

The crown replacement parts appear to not have a notch and they only make one.

Is the notch not important or can I just make a notch?

Thanks

The Dauntless rocker arms are RH or LH and must not be swapped around.
More than just a simple notch; the arms are slightly offset.

That's what I thought. Weird that they only make one and explicitly say left or right. I bet they split the difference and hope for the best.

I guess that means nobody is making proper replacements.

I sent them a question. They seem to carry crown parts so I bet they only have theirs.

I contacted Crown directly as well and they said:

Hi Ian,

Our records show 1194142 and 1194143 were superseded. This is why the applications state that they fit the left or right side.

Part numbers are used for reference purposes only. No implication is made that the parts supplied are the product of the original equipment manufacturer.

Subject: [CAS #4748] 1194143 Rocker Arm

Inquiry: This part is listed for right or left. There were originally two distinct part numbers 1194142 and 1194143 which were for left and right of the bracket, but were used on either head, left or right.

The photos associated with this part indicate that it is offset like the originals, so it would only work correctly on one side of the bracket.

My question is, has this part been re-engineered to work in place of 1194142 or is it an actual reproduction of 1194143? The 1194142 part seems to be made of unobtanium.

Thank you!

I'm pretty sure those are casting numbers, they don't appear in any of my books as part numbers. I sure wish these available as repros. I'm going to order the ones crown makes and see if they really are universal but I doubt it.

The Buick farm shows shows part # 1194143 as left LH--$19.00 ea , 22 in stock, he has no listing for right hand. I believe that part number is 1194142. His listing shows 300 and 340 v-8 as using the same part number.

I haven't checked part numbers specifically, but think there is another option for rocker arms and/or the whole rocker shaft assembly. I have been playing with the Buick 215 aluminum V8 for over 30 years now. This Buick 215 shares much of the same architecture as the dauntless 225, both having common ancestry to the '61 Buick 198 V6.
Well, the old 215 mfg. rights were sold off to Rover of England in the mid 1960s, and Rover made this engine up through about 1999. It was found in Range Rovers and LR Discoverys, as well as many other Brit cars.
I have robbed complete rocker shaft assemblies from the Rover 3.9/4.0 engines and used them straight onto my 215's, and all the rockers/stands on Buick 231's (with two extras to spare per side). I am sure the rockers on the Rover engines interchange with our 225's, and the U-pull yards are full of them. I have found some nearly new rocker assys on several of these junkyard engines. These are the same right and left handed pieces we use, only decades newer.

HI, I have just finished disassembling my 225 V6 and am still not sure of the year. Im guessing 1967 as front cover has a 67 on it and now I find a 67 on the rocker arms. I have a small crack in the pushrod socket and its number is 1192964 1B on number 5 cyl . so what replacement no. do I need for that one. Craig
