I'm fairly certain I'm on the right track here but thought a sanity check was in order...;)
Running, head/ tail and signal lights all work as advertised. Brake lights remain on constantly. MC servicing is spot on. Disconnecting forward hyd BL switch has no effect but disconnecting rear switch extinguishes lights. Cleaned and treated spade terminals on both switches and harnesses with same results. I bought two Echlin SL-139 switches from NAPA but think it will only need one. Am I correct to "assume" the next logical step is to replace the rear hyd switch?
    TIA!!

I had the same problem a month ago. My problem was that the brakes were constantly slightly pressed the entire time. There is a bolt on it to move it towards and away from the master cylinder. I just loosened it a bit and she was good to go. It might be the same for you!

Sounds like the rear switch has gone over to the other side.

If you leave the wires off of the rear switch and connect the wires to the front switch do the lights work properly?

Yup... Replaced rear switch and issue went away. Cut switch open and it was corroded. Replaced front switch and all fluid in system for good measure.

You did it right. I learned that the hard way.
