I have a 67 commando with a dauntless and an auto I believe it's a Dana 20 t case. The engine and most likely the transmission will need to be rebuilt.

I have a 2.8 GM v6 mated to a t5 that I want to use until I get the engine / trans rebuilt. What do I need to adapt the t5 to the dana? Thanks in advance

    Is it a jeep T5?
If you have the Dana 300 that came with it, that would be great! The jeep (and some Chevy?) T5 should have the round bolt pattern and 23(? ...going by memory) spline output shaft. This is common to many of the New Process 23x transfer cases, but their front output is on the wrong side. This leaves the jeep Dana 300, or a few models of the giant NP205 that came with that pattern. I'd be nervous about hanging a 205 off the back of a T5. That's a lot of weight.

Others members, please correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as mating your t5 to the Dana 20, you'd probably have less into the swap by just buying a Dana 300, IMO.

Probably have less time into rebuilding the 225 then in re-engineering every mount, exhaust and drivelines. The 400 usually doesn't need a rebuild as a 225 doesn't have enough power to ever heat it up and tax it. Usally fluid filter and an input seal and they are good to go.

Unless you're looking at a 5 to 10 year timeline to rebuild the original engine/tranny/TC hardly worth the time, money or effort to swap in that somewhat questionable combination.

It's a Chevy t5, just something I have laying around. I got this jeepster from a guy that just wanted it out of his garage and didn't know much about it. So I don't know if the 400 would need a rebuild but the 225 is locked up, I got it loose and turning with the starter a week later it's locked up again. I'm trying to have it running for when it starts warming up down here.
So would the better option be to adapt the POS GM 2.8 to the 400. Or go find a 231?

    Thanks for y'all's input

Is it a 2wd t5? You haven't said what it is out of. Because if you don't need 4WD, that would make it pretty simple. A few mount changes and a new driveshaft...

Easier to find a 231. The 2.8 has the goofy bellhousing. Pull the plugs and spray some PB blaster before you turn it over. I have started some engines that have sat for 30 years and longer.

A Chevy 2.8 is 173 CID. That'll make for an underpowered jeepster. I think it's a pretty safe bet you'll never get the conversion you're talking about out of your garage. Way too odd a conversion.

Just because you have the engine and tranny already does not make them good conversion candidates

Frankly, if you simply have to do something with the jeepster, you might be best off parting it out

I assumed the 2.8 would be underpowered but it would just be to take the kids around in. But yes it does have a goofy bell pattern so hopefully I can find a 231 cheap and just change the fluid in the 400 and be good to go. And i do want 4wd haha
