I picked up a new set of channels from classic enterprises, seem to be great quality but the drivers side has me scratching my head...

toward the firewall, there is an extra piece i wasn't expecting

Anyone know what this is for? Or if I have the wrong hat channel? Seems like this would cause the body to sit 3/8" higher on the drivers side front as this would sit on the frame rail.

My 68 cj5 is like that on the drivers side. On the passenger side there is a mounting hole in that same location with a rubber pad inbetween the frame and the hat channel.

Ok, that makes me feel better. When I got this tub, there was some hat channel patchwork already done. There was a rubber pad on one side, but not the other. The drivers side was replaced with thin wall box and most everything was rusted away by the time it came to be mine. Just wanted to get some others to chime in before I go and burn this thing on..

My Classic Panels had that too. I left it on. I also didn't put any rubber mounts forward of the floor.

They both should be there to help eliminate flex stress. A thin rubber pad was stapled to it originally from factory to cut down on squeek. That raised piece is not designed to be used as a tub support hence the light metal but if you find one that has been squished down then you know there has been a great amount of flex such as you would find if you were jumping (airborne) the jeep.
