I was wondering what most owners have for a body style listed on their title Utility, Truck or Jeep?

What was the body style listed on the bill of sale when bought new from dealer?.....Utility?? Thanks in advance for your help.

We have an assortment for jeeps in general. When Pete lived in PA and titled his M-151, he had a go round with PennDOT about the title listing it as a 1/4 ton truck (even though that's what it is). In PA truck tags are more than car tags and he ended up having it changed to a Ford Sedan.

The CJ7 is titled as a Jeep SW. I can't remember if he said he had that one changed or if it came that way. I believe the majority of the rest say truck.

I would think that part of it would depend on the state and how tags run. In VA, pickups are the same as cars unless used for commercial use and then they get a truck tag.

On old jeeps, I think it would go by what the manufacturer called the vehicle. From WWII, a jeep is a 1/4 ton truck.

    Thanks Beth for the reply.

I don’t have much control over what the RMV does after I hand in the bill of sale.

Friday, I went to the RMV to pick up a special bill of sale for those vehicles that have never been registered or titled. This past weekend I had a friend (State Police officer) verify the vin and signed off on my bill of sale.

I have the bill of sale on my desk and will be taking it to the RMV today the only thing not filled out is the body style and was wondering what the original listing was for the 2A, Utility, Truck or Jeep. Thanks.

Two of mine are registered as 1/2 ton capacity one at 1/4 ton capacity. I try not to say too much or cause any ripples when I'm down at the DMV. I just am happy to get out with my plates.

That’s my policy also I only answer a direct question and only give them what they need.

Even though there two different capacities, what body style is on your title?

One is a UT, one a PK, one is a LL(?)
The UT is the only one rated 1/4 ton. I guess it just depends on who is sitting at the desk what day and what kind of mood she's in.

Mine is listed as RD on my title. Must have been purchased new with only 2 seats, because the PA code translates RD as "Roadster" :D

OK, plan A didn’t work. I had all documents concerning the sale including a State Police sign off then they hit me with “you need proof that the previous owner paid sales tax”. The P.O. never title or registered it so I’m sure he didn’t decide one day, “hey let me go to the RVM and give them some money” . I’m on hold with the IRS and if they don’t answer shortly (20min waiting) I’m going to plan B.

Plan B worked, it was simply going to another RVM in this case Brocton Ma. to improve my chances of finding someone who may understand their job better then they do at the RMV in Plymouth.

I walk in and scan the counter out of the 7 there is one guy. I take a number as if I’m at a Supermarket deli, and take a seat. After a short wait they call my number, I get the guy, I hand over the documents and he takes a look, then smiles “We use to have one of these, used to drive it everywhere when I was a teenager”. Ok, how cool is that? He then told me everything I need too title a non-documented vehicle in the state of Ma.

    1) Notarized bill of sale
    2) Stolen vehicle report
    3) Fill out RMV1 form
    4) Notarized document of whereabouts of vehicle while in ownership of P.O.
    5) Mail everything into the Ma. Title Division with a $50 check

What the RMV wants me to do is go the Police Station and see if my 2A has been reported stolen. Then, return to them a document stating that there hasn’t been a report

Just an update, I did receive my 46 2A title from the title division of RMV, and it lists the body style as utility, they didn't drop the cj2 from the vin either.

Now I have to work on titling my 46 column shift that doesn’t have a title nor tags on the body or frame horn.

In CT for body style it gives suggestions "2 door, 4 door, etc" , so I just put 2 door and it worked.

I used to hate to go in to our county DMV but now I think they hate to see me because I come in with some of the most off the wall things on Jeeps. It seems everthing I buy something is screwy with the title. They considered my 56 CJ6 body style as LL. (Not sure what that means)
